I visited Hendon and the BoB Hall 6-8 times over a 10 year period between 2000-2009, and never once was it well lit - at least once the glass wall went in at the Sunderland end, you could actually see your hand in front of your face.
As for it being a collection of BoB aircraft, the Ju87, Ju88, Me110 and Spanish trainer(?) that were there were definately not BOB variants, and I think The Heinkel was a latter version as well? The bombers (Heinkel and Ju87) are in the Bomber Hall, the Me109, Spitfire and CR42 are grouped together in the Main Hall, and the Me110 is displayed with the Lancaster, which are all logical groupings....
Maybe with 100 years of history to celebrate, 20% of the available display space for a 3 month conflict was seen as extravagant?

Does anyone do a 1/48 scale one?

Just had another look at the earlier pics - looks like the Stuka is in the Bomber Hall at Hendon as well.
So for all the fuss on other forums about the re-purposing of the BoB Hall at Hendon, and the splitting up of the collection, only the Gladiator, Defiant, Lysander and the (late-war) Ju88 actually left the site?

The photo you have labelled as Typhoon is also a Tempest (TT5).
Dave - BoB aircraft still at Hendon are (I think) Spitfire, Me109, Fiat CR42 and Hurricane. Ju88, Gladiator, Lysander and Defiant at Cosford. Me110 in Bomber Hall at Hendon (but its a night fighter, so not BoB). Not sure where the Blenheim is, or the Stuka and Heinkel...
Edit: Blenheim and Heinkel are obviously still at Hendon (see below) - Stuka is probably at Cosford (not BoB variant either)

I thought the exhibition was always intended to be temporary - 2014-2018 to coincide with 100 yr anniversary of WWI? Certainly, the docents that led as through a couple of years ago were under that impression....

24/08/1940 Antoni Glowacki shot down 3 BF-109s and 2 Ju88s to become the first one-day-ace in Battle of Britain. Bet Brian Carbury by a week......

It will be interesting to see what impact this has on TPM's efforts...

I seem to remember a few 1/48 models where the cafe is now that were made to a high standard, and in RNZAF markings.
There was also a huge amount of mainly 1/72 scale kits, in the reserve hangar that were pretty average?

I like to see well built models in a museum - the ones in the new warbirds hangar at Ardmore make an interesting addition to the aircraft..... unfortunately, museums seem to get all sorts donated, many made to a very average standard.

"This current would be its longest lived coat of paint."
Only if they sanded the previous schemes off. If they over-painted them........

According to the Museum's website, it was converted to a TT in Sept 1944, and stayed on the books until 1978, when it was retired from gate guard duties (also in TT colours) = 34 years, then it was restored firstly as a Tug, before becoming "521" - what year was the scheme change/conversion done?

Not so keen on top dresser scheme - but it was painted most its service life as a target-tug - and there is more to a Air Force with 80 years of History than the 6 years of conflict that most people seem fixated on.
I don't know why you think modellers are the ones that like shiny colour schemes - WW2 is still the most popular era for modellers (by a long way), which is hardly shiny...

looked spectacular in its target tug colours after its first restoration...... WW2 scheme is very uninspiring by comparison... ditto when comparing the current anonymous P-40 scheme with the one it wore early on its restoration...

So what were TPM expecting that was going to require transport by the RNZAF? If it was just the wing ribs they have had done, surely that wouldn't take up much more than a couple of pallets?

BTW - why is the RNZAF providing a logistics service between two privately owned companies?
