I would encourage you to have some flexibility in your planning, by November the Vickers Vincent, currently in a holding pattern at Wigrim, is anticipated to have returned to the North Shore, so a visit to Dairy Flat may be worth considering.

Brilliant Errol and Dave, thanks for posting. Any word on the floor from Wigrim about the progress on the Vildebeest with a frame to compare it with? I love the look of the green/brown beside the silver. I wonder if there is any chance of getting it on its wheels while it's there?

Looking back at this thread, I am surprised there has been nothing added since August. Has anyone made it down there since, I am keen to see any updates.
As we are currently packing to move, I found my photo album with pics of the work, going back a few years now, once we are sorted I will try and post a few.

Not sure quiet where to post this, so starting here.
Sadly I have heard this weekend about the sudden passing of Bill (Kevin) Billings. After many hours on and around aircraft through his time in the RNZAF, Motat Volunteer (around 30 years ago) and long time supporter of the Subritzky Collection at Dairy Flat, Bill passed away very unexpectedly last week.
Rest in peace Bill.

Great to see the Vincent jouney and its purpose has been formally announced by the Wigrim team. They were certainly pretty busy when I was down there a couple of weeks ago, but it was great to see the 2 together on the workshop tour. The guide even commented how excited I was seeing them in the workshop. Now we understand why it is there, I still hope there is the time to see NZ311 on her centre section. It would be brilliant to have the opportunity to really appreciate the size of this machine on its wheels.

Hmmm, I have had some feedback today. Apparently saying well built woman was not the nicest thing to say, so the curves of the wheel spats (including the tail wheel) remind me of my grandfathers 1950s Vauxhall Velox

And for fun, think about the size of the thing- given those ladders being used for support (though admittedly there's no weight on the legs and the wheels aren't touching the ground) I know what you mean, I'm 5'7" and I can stand under the leading edge quiet comfortably Those wheel spats are just stunning and massive, the curves makes it look like a well built woman.... The original of these, Steve tells me, came from a lucky find while on the hunt for Hind pieces. From a dented and squashed 1 came 2 magnificent reverse engineered spats with a good few hours of work and a lot of noise.

For NZ forumites grap yourself a copy of the March edition of Aeroplane for the article on the Fairy Gordon. Got mine today from Whitcoulls. And for a moment I thought I was looking at the Fairy Gordon thread, NOT the Vickers Vincent on the move thread. Anyone been to Wigrim to see if the container has been opened? I am heading to CHCH in 8 days and definately going to Wigrim regardless, but really keen to see it when I am there.

Hello Anyone else on the shore see the 4 Seasprites up together today, it was around midday. I was wondering what they were celebrating or practising for? I saw them from the distance heading down over the east coast then turning in towards Whenuapai. Was a very nice site to see.

I have been followed the Vincent since I first visited the Subritzky workshop at Dairy Flat over 20 years ago. Seeing it in the container is a reflection of Steve's hard work and commitment to this project over this time and the resulting airframe shows the impressive growth in his skills. I am by chance heading to Christchurch in July and am planning to take my son to the airforce museum at Wigrim, with a huge amount of excitement and anticipation. At some point I must find my photo albumn and with Steve's consent, look at posting some of these photos in time.

Nice looking kit. Wasn't there a New Zealand made kit, I remember corresponding with someon that had been to Dairy Flat to measure and photograph the Vincent a few years back?
And then I googled and a post from 2006 on the forum came up, kiwiresins did the Vildebeest. Did anyone make one? it was beyond my skills and income level back then. Just wonder how they would compare.

Saw that on the News too. A bit disappointing from that perspective, nothing like rereengineering what has already been done

Thanks for posting the movies Felyne, I was along the runway in the parking bay. It was very moving to see this today and so much respect shown by the crowd. I took only stills, looking through them now.

Just got home, hot, sun burnt, tired and a little shattered but smiling. Thank you Warbirds team, owners pilots and contributors. What a great day, heaps of photos and some might be in focus... but that's a job for later on

That is an interesting picture of the vampire at Hobsonville and great to see. The red inverted triangle on the pod has frustrated me for years whenever I have looked at it at motat. But it has been there for years, even more than I have been on this planet and my kids take great delight in telling me how old I am....
