Thanks Dave. I actually had to decide when to stop detailing the interior, there's just so much inside an RNZAF Hercules, I probably could have gone on adding pipes, wires, racks, shelves and stowage for years! The webbing seating in back is made out of red fruit-&-vegetable sacking - like onion sack - painted with primer surfacer to stiffen it and then repainted red. The LED lighting was a real learning curve for me, but I could now do wingtip and landing lights fairly easily in most aircraft, and the technology lends itself to cars, boats and, of course, trains as well ... the latter where its probably been used longest ... I need to thank Phillip Treweek for his detailed photos at Kiwiaircraft Images - www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/herc.htmlAnd Giannis Doxas for his extraordinary, prize winning C-130H Helenic Air Force build ... which gave me great inspiration ... and rather outshines mine ... www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal8/7301-7400/gal7342-C-130-Doxas/00.shtm

I've just finished this lengthy commission build of Italeri's C-130H Herc - with major scratchbuilt interior details like webbing seats, stretcher racks, seat-belts and aircrews' sheepskin seat covers - plus the inclusion of LED lighting and an onboard battery-holder/switch in the port main-wheelbay ... The model will likely be hung in a child's bedroom as a night-light, hence the inclusion of pilot and loadmaster figures. Quite difficult to capture the whole beast on film against a plain background. More photos may follow. The full build can be seen at www.kiwimodeller.com/index.php/forum/38-follow-as-i-build/31414-italeri-1-48-c-130h-hercules-nz7001-40-sqn-rnzaf?start=30#104313DSCN3217-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3216-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3218-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3219-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3220-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3221-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3222-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3224-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3223-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3226-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3229-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr DSCN3225-001 by Wally Hicks, on Flickr Tamiya enamels & Aeromaster acrylics, brush painted, OldModels & Ventura decals. I sometimes call it OCD but its just run-of-the-mill Virgo perfectionism I think ... combined with the model building bug ... and an interest in military history, especially NZ military aviation history ... I try to be as thorough and accurate as I can be.

Thanks Dave. I've wanted to build Keith Park's Hurricane for SO LONG but previously got stuck on Code Letters and the 'artwork'. We had a long discussion over at Kiwimodeller about the 'dog' and eventually Calum resolved to make his own Cerberus decals, which he kindly shared with me. [Calum used serial P2520 on his, which seems equally possible ... or perhaps there were 2 x OK-1s?] Personally I am convinced from the one photo which shows them that Park's Code Letters OK-1 were White, although logically they would be Light Grey during this period. In B&W the 'hue' indicating colour seems to me to perfectly match the White of the adjacent roundel. The Hasegawa kitset has been kinda superceded by Airfix's new tooling, but I still rather like it, especially the pronounced 'fabric effect' ... One day I hope to do a 1/24 scale Airfix version of the aircraft ...

Hi Andrew, Yes, I can help or at least I have the Ventura serial numbers. However, IMHO its not all that simple. EagleCals have used 'squared' type numbers which look to have a thinner stroke than Ventura, so even matching the shape may not suffice. Ventura's may be thicker ... Interesting to note that Ventura use a 'rounded' five [5] as the last digit on their sheet which includes NZ5255 'C'. This seems odd to me, since recent photographic evidence exists of the discovery of the wreck and the 5's all look the same and look 'squared' to me ... (see Classic Warbirds No 6 pg 43) So I'm inclined to send you all the letters and numbers for the entire serial number. No worries there and no charge. PM me or reply with a postal address. www.venturapublications.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=83&products_id=255Shall we go into the subject of EagleCal's RNZAF Roundel Blue colour? It, like the old Ventura RNZAF Corsairs sheet linked above, I consider too light ... Ventura's new Corsair's sheet is a much better Dark Blue colour, although the shape of the upper wing roundels may not be accurate for an early RNZAF Corsair ...? It depicts a late RNZAF aircraft. www.venturapublications.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69&products_id=306Hannants Xtradecal possibly do a better shaped earlier roundel in Dark Blue - for NZ5272/5307 rebuild - although here the Blue-White-Blue ratio may be less accurate? And all the roundel-bars are the same US Insignia Blue, whereas our Starboard upper & Port lower insignia on RNZAF machines were all the same colour due to the entire Roundel-Bar being painted on by us ... www.hannants.co.uk/product/X32057As always, I stand to be corrected on any of this. Someone will know definitively. If you already know all this about Roundel-Bar colours forgive me for raising the subject. Best Regards Wally.

Yep, great news indeed. I shall be pre-ordering one. NZ has both an Air Force and Navy history with the venerable Walrus, so I'm looking forward to options to build. Kinda wish (hope) they would include a catapult in it ...? The level of detail looks amazing. I had to scratch build a lot of that when I took on the ancient Merit/Smer 1/50th scale version a while back as NZ152 'B' ... rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/19968/rnzaf-supermarine-walrus-mk-smer

kiwicorsair, "can you build an RB-34 from the early Ventura that revell also makes?" Short answer = YES, but only by either combining the 2 kitsets, PV-1 Ventura + Ventura Mk II or by obtaining the required parts for each option. rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/22028/48-34-ventura-nz4602-1944The Ventura II requires the Martin Turret [to replace Boulton-Paul] OR The PV-1 Ventura requires the 'glass nose' with windows [clear parts] [to replace the solid nose] . Both kits - if depicted as B-34 or Ventura II - require the corrected 'blister' canopy, manufactured by AlleyCat (@ Hannants) but OOP when I last looked. So you can get 2 kitsets and cannibalise or you can apply to Revell 'Spare Parts' online for the required parts. They seem to be okay about sending them. I did both and now have an extra Martin Turret, which I'll use to build B-34 NZ4600 sometime in the near future. I hope to take either a Ventura II or B-34 to Armistice in Cambridge this year, where my NZ4602 '02' OP-O [cited above] won the 'People's Choice' award in 2014. PS - The RNZAF Roundel Blue appears much lighter in the photos of NZ4602 than it actually is. I used the new Ventura set PV-1 Venturas with 'corrected' Dark Blue roundels. However, as luck would have it, the Xtradecal set you are using has both Wing & Fuselage Roundels with yellow outlines, either designed for or entirely suitable for NZ4600 [and no doubt other home-based PV-1s & B-34s] but not actually specified in the set as belonging to an aircraft in it ... Kinda weird but a boon for us RNZAF WW2 aircraft fans huh? Xtradecals Roundel Blue is nice and dark too ... Cheers
