There was only one aircraft bomb found the rest are 3 inch mortar bombs I found 80 the first day I was there they were all drill rounds, we found 8 or 9 Beza machine guns 1 german maxim , drill mills bombs and AT mines ,limpet mines, large AP rounds . I have also seen a few water cooled vickers as well , there was tons and tons of stuff there but we only found one live round there the hole time we were getting stuff out .

A couple of photos of us in the early 80s at Hopu Hopu... There used to be tons and tons of stuff buried there, around the bunkers and in the lake. I took out many car loads of stuff, including artillery optical sights, mines, grenades, mortars and firearms. Unfortunately the army got wind of what we and others were doing, and brought diggers down and dug the place out. So there is not as much stuff as there used to be. There is still the nice odd bit coming out of the place today.

The Sherman was at one stage recently sitting in the yard of a hire company inn Greenwood street. Gone now, but were there with some other military vehicles. It was the m41 Walker Bulldog that was sitting in Greenwood St. Is that Reg Gibson's one? Yes, The Sexton is Reg's. Here is a photo my son took of the Walker Bulldog at one of our tank days.

Waiouru Museum's Sherman is a runner, the engine was re-built in Hamilton. Its a 9 cylinder continental. We used to drive the Sherman every weekend. We had it for two years here in Hamilton. It was a very hungry gutted thing to feed, but a lot of fun. At the moment one of the guys here in Hamilton has a un-restored Sexton which is a Sherman chassis with a 25 pounder gun. Waiouru's Sherman/Grizzly when we had it in Hamilton My mates Sexton. It also has a 9 cylinder radial.

Heres some photos of the Humvees at Armistice, i was actually taking a photo of the LRDG truck, and caught the front of the armored Hummer. Both these i believe were trialed in NZ, and both are now in private hands.

A friend of mine went to the War & Peace Show in the UK this year, and amongst all the hundreds of displays were these.

I was a storeman for Eagle Air at the time, they stopped using the Bandits. I may have already put these photos on this site before. I had also at that time kept aside parts for Murray Barkers metroliner in the hope of Free beer for life, but was made Redundant shortly after. So these parts were probably scrapped.

A good friend of mine lives at Seagrove and his Garden oozes 50cal projectiles, which quite alot are in good order and i have cleaned some up and put them back in the shellcasses for displays. As a boy, my father lived on the other side of the Manukau harbour (opposite Seagrove), he would go down to the beach and pick up hundereds of 50cal shells and linking. He said every kid at his school had huge strips of 50cal in links.

A very very interesting guy Reg Gibson, spent many hours working on his Stuart Tank, it had a 7 cylinder radial engine in it, and we used to drive it up and down Mahoe street at night. I have been with him to other military dumps looking for vehicles and militaria, also did a Sherman Tank with him, it had a 9 cylinder radial. Very hungry on gas.

I took these photos and plenty of others in the weekend and posted them on the militarianz site.
Andys museum at Tauwhare is now more comprehensive than ever, as he had vehicles stored away in other sheds that he has now brought out on display. In fact he told me he would never have the room to put the stuff from Tauranga if he ever had to bring it back. He is there most weekends, working on his bits and pieces. He is only a phone call away. I don't think the turret is from a Ventura, Andy got it from Australia.
