Could it be Crunge? There is an old thread on this forum from 2014 talking about it, and this image is on google. 71-2 by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr

For me the pointy tailed (Sounds like the official term ) are my favourite. They do look faster. Although in saying that, is there anything more beautiful than a Mk1 spitfire?

I think member only is a good idea. It works well with other podcasts. I have signed up to a couple. You probably don't need to offer too many concessions, or offer tiered memberships. What entices me with these other podcasts is early access, being ad free, and additional 'extra' mini episodes. Do you have an idea of how many people subscribe and/or listen to the show? That should give some indication of if there is enough of an audience to get a proportion to sign up.

Its a hard list to pick because there are so many aircraft that were instrumental in their own field. Its difficult because is it more glamorous to pick fighters over transports, or heavy bombers over biplanes, or Allied over Axis? Here is my personal top 5: 1. De Havilland Tiger Moth - Think how many people were taught to fly in a Tiger Moth in air schemes all over the commonwealth and beyond 2. P-40. As others have stated, but i would also add the best fighter the US had at its disposal early in the war and did a lot of the hard fighting early on in the Pacific. I think units like the 49th Fighter Group are sadly overlooked as they defended Northern Australia and then took the fight to the Japanese in P40s. Not to mention the hard work the P40 did in North Africa (which freed up Britain's main fighters to keep defending Britain) 3. The Lancaster. Arguably the best bomber of World War 2 until the B29 4. The Mustang. The fact that the Allies got an Air Superior fighter with the range to fly to Germany and back was a game changar 5. The Hurricane. The swiss army knife of fighter aircraft. Not many others can claim to be front line fighters, catapult fighters on ships, flying anti tank weapons, light bombers, personal mounts, and fly in every theatre of war.

Disclaimer I am not advocating one way or the other on the following policy or any political parties... After reading the latest National policy regarding putting criminal offending youth in Defense Force run boot camps it has made me wonder: - Can the government command the defense force to do this sort of thing?
- Does the Defense Force get notification, or input in such policy discussions or does the leadership sort of find out like the rest of us?
- Does the Defense Force even want to run youth camps for criminal youth?
It might be naivety on my part speaking but i would have thought this sits a bit outside the Defense Force's current roles and responsibilities and dealing with the complexities of youth offenders would require some quite specialized roles and additional training i would suspect.

So the Auckland Libraries Team very kindly sent a cropped image. Mystery solved. Not some new bare metal P-40. As Bevan has correctly guessed - just engine and canopy covers 1370_0350A_35(crop) by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr

I noticed this photo from the Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections 1370-350A-32, 33, 35, 36. Is the P-40 in the red square one of the Silver ones? It looks too dark, but it definitely looks like it has an anti-glare black stripe going up to and past the windscreen. It also appears to have a fuselage code and a white tail... silver P40 by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr

Regardless of who is in government, you would think that what is happening in Europe, coupled with what appears to be a surprise agreement between China and the Solomon Islands, that we would look at increasing our defense spending. Surely Australia must be getting sick of being the only one with any capabilities in our neck of the woods.

Certainly an interesting thought. A different situation but Germany just okayed a $112.7 billion Euro boost to defence spending. If things changed in our neck of the woods, then surely we'd get support from the US, and at the start it wouldn't need to be advanced fighters. 10-20 F5E advanced trainers to begin with?

I flew into Blenheim last week and there were 3 Hercs there. I didn't get close enough to see any serial numbers but one of them was missing its entire Tail assembly and 2 engines. One was also doing taxiing runs up and down the runway.
