Good stuff. I wonder how quickly they were deployed from Australia and by what means?

Thank you so much for these photographs. I had no idea of such variety. Were I there, I would need probably at least twenty minutes per aircraft to settle down each overcoming of awe before moving to the next.

Outstanding stuff!
re the Savoia-Marchetti SM79 Sparviero: Fascinating how the engine nacelle leading edge is also the exhaust manifold. No anti-icing boots needed ...

So how did No. 54 (RAF) get their Vampires across the Atlantic in 1948?

We have all learned a lot about the technical aspects of wars, but what about how they are financed? This documentary is very interesting and is not a boring accountancy lesson: rumble.com/v1fr8nd-86931337.html

And to divert slightly, I think we have seen those wheels on some of our post-war ground equipment (battery-carts and suchlike).

I stumbled upon this yesterday in a newspaper parcel-wrapping that arrived at my work: homes.co.nz/address/auckland/hobsonville/25-clark-road/AzjJqnSomeone needs to tell us more about it. Looks like it could have been a great place for Hobsonville parties? Dave? Significant points are: 1. Owned by NZ Defence at time of this sale. 2. A tunnel once leading to Limeburners bay factory. Please tell us more about this ... 3. A huge annexe built by the RNZAF in 1969. What was that used for? 4. At the end of the 45 photos there is a good You Tube video that shows quite a bit more.

Looking forward to this. As a schoolboy on holiday in about 1958 from a high-up Kilbernie house (actually Upper Rodrigo Street) we had a wonderful view of the reconstruction. I spent hours watching through binoculars, the speeding twin-engined earthmovers shifting the spoil. They carried 30 tons of earth at 30 mph and their loading was assisted by the bulldozer-push method. There must have been a vast volume of dieseline consumed during that project. Also remember the old Evans Bay coal-fired power station.

Probably not a NZ photo. We didn't have any battery carts of that configuration.

Really enjoyable and even at that early stage I immediately recognised the corner of what became No. 2 Hangar and the Electrical Section Battery Room where I worked for a year or so.
I think Baker Construction did major work on the new Hong Kong airport, though I have no source to offer in that regard.

Very good, with a bit of history, poverty and opulence contrasted in. Shame about being financed by cancer sticks.
