It was an Otter. Not a groundloop, but a heavy landing which broke starboard landing gear strut.

I saw the same thing happen at our flying field on Sunday.A 2cell pack mistakenly charged at the 3 cell rate. Result was a sudden spectacular fire lasting several seconds, destroyed battery & scorch marks on the vehicle it was charging beside

I have a copy of Air Progress magazine January 1965 which has a detailed article on the FD25. Included is a tiny 3-view with the major dimensions given.Would this be of any use to you? The article also shows a cutaway view. PM me if you're interested & we'll sort something out

Mostly in good condition except for some 1972 issues have torn/loose covers

I remember this Cub well as I often used to call in to Wanganui Airport (where this shot was taken) on my way between Stratford & Palmy. That was 1959-63 so it probably hasn't flown since the mid fifties.Last time I saw it the hangar had fallen on it & looked as if it had broken its back.Seemed a pity to let an aeroplane deteriorate like that.

I for one would be interested in a Fletcher model, but would prefer something a little bigger at least 2m span. I think a model this size would have wider appeal as it is the minimum size flown by MANZ (miniature aircraft NZ) , who seem to be where most RC scale activity is these days.

I have only just come across this thread & got quite a surprise to find that the Historic Flight's Tiger was AIE in a former life. I had the pleasure of a flight in it when it was owned by my old mate Stan Askew who operated it out of Stratford. At that time it was in an all white colour scheme with black trim.I have a slide of it which I will post when I figure out how to digitise it ,along with my dozens of other slides!

Hi,I've just registered as a new member here although I've been viewing the forum for quite some time. The thread on the Chrislea brought back some memories! Back in 1968 when I was a memeber of the Stratford Aero Club we organised a vintage air show at Stratford. Due to bad weather etc elsewhere the only vintage aircraft that turned up was "ASI" flown by Gordon Livingstone who owned it at the time. He kindly offered me a flight in ASI which was quite entertaining. Starting off having to abort the take-off because he couldn't hold it straight. We tried again on a cross wind runway and got off ok and then I got my biggest surprise when he let me fly it. That control system certainly took some getting used to! We had a nice flight around the local area and the Gypsy engine sure sounded great. He obviously had great confidence in me because he let me land it (uneventfuly). Rudder control was by pedals set flat on the floor and hinged in the middle like a sewing machine treadle, but the rudders being out of the prop wash were just about useless anyway. I attach a picture I took at Wings over Wairarapa in March 2009 showing the stripped fuse - note fuel tanks under back seat and those control wheels are in the full up elevator position.
