Fantastic Mike, it's great to see it in NZ. What a scoop, how did you find out about it being here?

Can't we get Avspecs to get it flying here before it heads to the USA? ;D

I just thought, maybe you've let the surprise overseas warbird for Wanaka out of the bag. I did say i reckoned it was going to be a B-17...

Thats one hell of a controversial machine!

It sure is Shorty. It will get more controversial if we can work out how to put an embargo on it's export because it's a war weapon... hehe. I'm sure Classic Flyers could house it if we did.

Great shame to see it wrapped up on a wharf. Surely the nose section at least could easily be on public display somewhere while all the other background dispute is sorted! This must be one of the only realistic opportunities to see a B17 in New Zealand.

Yes, the dispute is long solved. It's in transit to Pima where it will be restored, eventually to fly.

Its only passing through on its way to the US isn't it?? Yep, assume that it is just here in transit but seems to me that while being stuck here for who knows now long, it could be on display easily enough just down the road at Classic Flyers. Pipe dream I know.

Pipe dream I know. Yeah now that would certainly be a drawcard!! I'd fly up to see her myself. I'd say that the freight company has control over her disposition and would want to see her right where she is until she goes on her next ship. Maybe Weta workshops could rustle up a replica and we could do a swap (Cue Mission Impossible music!! ;D)

You can bet your boots that it is currently "in bond" and to get it out of bond would be a paper war of immense and expensive undertaking. While it is in bond it is effectively" not here" but the moment you want to move it elsewhere it becomes an import with all the drama that involves (especially as it is a weapon of war).
To put it another way: Grow up Get real!

Hear hear !
You've spent gazillions trying to release this thing from a slow demise, fought paper wars, . . lost hair . . . . . been to negotiating hell and back and as part of its journey its sitting short term on flat racks in Tauranga waiting to be loaded for a ship to America. Yeah sure guys, unload it and play with it for a week or two. No worries.
As the last guy said: "get real !"
