The last autobiography to ever be written by a NZ fighter ace has been published There are 6 NZ fighter aces still alive and as far as I am aware none of the others are intending to publish a book so it is likely that this will be the last autobiography. There are a couple of people who are writing biographies of about NZ fighter aces. The book is Through My Eyes by Wing Commander Owen Hardy DFC and Bar - Owen stayed in the Royal Air Force after the war so the book covers war time and peace time activities You can buy the book here www.lulu.com/browse/search.php?fListingClass=0&fSearch=owen+hardy

Excellent, thanks, Larry.
Must resist and stick to my book-buying ban ... for now...

Andy, I interviewed Owen a few months back and that was when he told Larry and me about the book he had written and was getting published. I will say only this, his story as he told it to me for the film was great, and the many photos he has in his collection which he said were going into the book were also brilliant. Don't hold back mate, bend the rules and get this one. I think it's going to be a pretty rare one too. He's a great chap and he has stared clear of publicity throughout his life so little is known about his career, he told me I was the first person he ever allowed to interview him about his Air Force days. He served on 485 Squadron, and also in North Africa with seven Battle of Britain aces in his squadron (lead by Brian Kingcombe who handpicked his men), and after the war he lead a Vampire display team in Germany, and later rose to high places in the startegy of the RAF defence system. Amazing guy.

I do a good job at bending my own rules but at least I have someone else to blame now. Thanks, Dave! Certainly sounds like a cracker.

The last autobiography to ever be written by a NZ fighter ace has been published I remember you saying the same thing about two years ago when Alan Peart's book was coming out, that it would be the last. It's great that Owen has done his story,eh. Of the surviving aces, most have already written their memories haven't they? Jim Sheddan has; Geoff Fisken has in various forms; Alan Peart has; Jack Stafford has; Harvey Sweetman hasn't I don't believe Owen Hardy has; Not sure about Guy Newton who's in Aussie; Not sure about Keith Lawrence who you said is in the UK;
