A good theory except an Ohakea-based team would never have seen a Corsair as they were not even in the RNZAF and certainly none in NZ at the time.
It's possible however the same sentiment applied to an individual on the team who may have worked at Santo or Cactus previously.

No but perhaps they were aware of US Corsairs so drew one as if they were using one for parts?

Does anyone else think the line of damage to the skin just behind the repair is suspiciously in line with the prop' ...??

I would say it's about 200mm behind the prop arc personally. It's hard to say on this angle.
We ned to see that accident report I reckon.

It seems amazing how quickly they repaired it and got it back into service. I wonder if the front half of another was grafted on, that happened with some RNZAF fighters in WWII, not sure about any Hudsons though.
