Hi everybody. Realising this topic has already been touched on briefly in the Golden Skyhawk thread, nevertheless I was wondering if anyone has any reference material for the RNZAF 'Univers J' typeface that they'd be willing to share with me? Anything would do – a scan of the paint shop's alphabet lettering guide, vector file, postscript font... I'm not wanting it for commercial purposes, I just dabble from time to time with printing out my own decals on my laser printer for modelling purposes, and to have the proper typeface for RNZAF subjects would be terrific, and a real bonus.
Thanks heaps.

Hello folks! First time poster here, so be gentle This is a bit of an oblique request. I'm currently repainting a few RNZAF aircraft (mainly the upgraded B757) - but for MS Flightsim (FSX). This is a hobby thing - totally non-commercial, so I'd love to be able to use the correct font(s) wherever possible. I'm also trying to trace the (big) "75" font. I can't seem to match it. All help gratefully received! Adam.

Try www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/Load in a pic and it tries to match the font. And PM me your real email address and I'll send you Universe J.

Holy Shit, I didn't read the text at first and thought you'd had done an actual Air-to-Air with the real thing. That is utterly superb! You could sell those shots to a magazine and they'd never know I reckon, ;d

Spectacular FSX model building skills on display there, Adam! One teeny tiny thing though. The full rego reads NZ7572 but the short call sign at the top of the fin reads 71. Thanks to Dave's current forum header, I know NZ7571 was painted in 75th anniversary scheme. Were both machines done?

It actually occurred to me last night as I was falling asleep (sad, aren't I??). I'd forgotten which of the two aircraft I was painting . To answer your question, though ... I don't know whether both were done up, or even how many of the C-130s sported some 75th Anniversary stickers. I don't think any of the Orions were decorated < >. As you say, at least we know 7571 was!

I'm sure I have it somewhere still. PM me your email and I'll send it to you when I find it!
It's been ages since I ran ARMA - keen to hear more about your mod!
Adam.

This is probably a long shot, I'm currently working on a "what could have been" picture using the DCS F16C, I've got the livery mostly sorted out but the typeface is plaguing me. I've tried searching for anything similar but they just fall short. Does anyone here still have access to Universal J?

For your F16 model if you were unaware of the significance of the serial numbers that were to be allocated here is the reason. They were to be serialed NZ6521 onwards. "65" being the next unallocated range in the Strike allocations in the NZ60xx series The last two of the serials were replicates of the last two numbers allocated to the first Vampires the RNZAF had in the early 1950s. I allocated those serial numbers in my role as Historical advisor and colours and markings expert at Air Staff in the late 1990s. The allocation of "21" onwards was to avoid similar last two numbers for the aircraft operating at Ohakea when there may have been A4s still being flown.
