So exactly how far along is the Avian Bruce?

essentially ready to go, but a transmit fault on the radio is holding up the sign off. Its being a bit troublesome to track down and repair what is causing it - I reckon I need an exorcist.....

Good re the fine weather. I'm still trying to give away my home standby shift. Surely no cabin manager would have the guts to call in sick on a public holiday so I would have to replace them...

Looks like a great gathering - nice to see a lot of familiar faces (or aeroplanes at least!) there.

It was indeed at perfect weather day in the Waikato. After overnighting at Raglan, and seeing a number of interesting aircraft there, we arrived at Te Kowhai just before 11am to the surprising sight (for that late hour) of the Boland Phoenix Hot Air Balloon ZK-PHX sailing above the paddocks. Shows how light a wind was around. Being Te Kowhai, home of Max Clear's Micro Aviation factory, several Bantams of various vintages were around the field. Among the active ones, B22J ZK-DKT of Ohinewai has the correct Waikato-grass colour Particularly pleasing to me was the number of Tecams that arrived, including this retractable Sierra from Taupo, ZK-SRG/2 A few rotorcraft were evident. I have never seen a ELA Aviacion ELA-08-R-115 before, ZK-LMO lives at Morrinsville. (Just behind it, Extra EA 300/L ZK-XRA is just about to win the prize for the worst landing of the day!). The McNair Mynah is about as basic as you can get. ZK-FQU is one of five built, the only other one of these apparently still extant is ZK-FSR As more of a fly-in rather than a display, there was little in the way of set pieces. The model airplane club did a demonstration at lunchtime, and the Innovator Mosquito XE ZK-IXE did a low-key session. I counted 91 aircraft actually outside, including arrivals, departures and resident locals. More were tucked away. The Thunder Mustang did a brief flyover but did not land. The other heavy metal was Harvard NZ1091/ZK-ENC which did land and park. The only possible disappointment was the number of resident Bantams that lurked inside the hangars in the dark and well covered up. It would have been nice to see all of these lined up outside just to show what keen locals can do. But that's a minor gripe. Good to meet up with you once again Bruce, see you at Raglan.

Great pics guys, looks like it was a fabulous day out. What happened to XRA's landing that made it so bad Peter?

There was a spot landing competition. Two a/c tied for third - 2 metres away from the spot. One a/c got second place - 1 metre away. Fly Synthesis ZK-TTX got first - right on the mark.
Then they looked at the - um - arrivals. The Extra would probably have owed quite a bit in landing fees if it was priced per bounce, shall we say.

What happened to XRA's landing that made it so bad Peter? It touched down with the lhs wheel in the long grass. To be fair, it was really long compared to the nice mowed stuff. He battled (successfully) to keep it straight - ish and out of the drain

Ah ok, well if they got to use the aeroplane again without stopping for repairs then that's all good
