Does anyone have any recent or old photos of Tiger Moth ZK-BSN?
It apparently is owned by the New Zealand Historic Aircraft Trust at Ardmore. Does it get out and about much?
From what I have found this aircraft, which was originally NZ1415, was very possibly on the inventory of No. 7 (GR) Squadron at Waipapakauri in 1942-43. I'd like to find out more. Who looks after its records, and does anyone know if they have the logbooks etc going back to the war?

I think Dave, that you will now find that BSN is in Tauranga @ the museum there. Has'nt been based in AR for sometime now.Last time I looked it was not in the hangar that the Classic Flyers museum but in an adjacent hangar.Still gets flown on a regular basis I would imagine.

Graham Orphan at Omaka restored her to flight during the mid-late 1990s, she wore a very attractive cream and dark blue scheme. Her return to the skies was covered in the odd issue of Classic Wings Downunder at the time.

Thanks chaps. That makes sense that it would be in Tauranga as the Rapide that went there is owned by the same trust, I think. I was going by the registration details on the CAA site.
I'll drop Graham a line, he probably knows the history and may be able to confirm to 7 Sqn connection.

I for one would be quite amazed if anyone had the wartime logbooks for any Tiger. Do any(logbooks) exist today? According to the Bible, New Zealand Military Aircraft Serials and Aircraft History..
Australian built at Bankstown. BOC Unit 18 Rongotai 13 November 1941. Declared surplus by Government Stores Board on SR66/56 dated 28 June 1956, tender number 6504. Sold to E. Henshaw, Timaru for 376 pounds and entered the New Zealand Civil Aircraft Register as ZK-BSN.
No mention of its 7Sqn connection there. Would be interested Dave on what you find out!

Well it was flown by a No. 7 (GR) Squadron crew at Waipapakauri, I have that data from a logbook. All the GR squarons that operated Vincents and vildebeests seemed to ahve a light aircraft such as a Tiger Moth or Moth Minor on strength for use as instrument trainers and communications aircraft. And so it seems likely that this was either based at Waipapakauri or it was a bloody long way from home on that day, the closest station using them en masse at that time would have been Tauranga.
Sadly adf.serials lacks a lot of detail on the individual careers of most of the RNZAF aircraft. It is a great resource but in this case there's a huge gap in the history between 1941 and 1956. It could have been with 20 or so units in that time. I have built up a lot of history in my research for numerous GR and BR aircraft that has never appeared on adf.serials. Someone suggested on here some time back we should all pool our research and set up a new version of it since Ivan no longer updates it and it seems to be a dead site. Maybe we should. I'm sure we could add a lot more to it with all the researchers out there who've gathered logbooks and other data.

I have some sort of log in Wanganui for a Tiger which mentions it's RNZAF serial on the cover, in addition to it's ZK- reg. I will take a close look at it when Im on my way to Masterton next month. For some reason NZ1428 is in my head...

Thats more or less how I remember BSN . Owned by 27sqn (atc) between 1968 and approx 1979 . I seem to remember some blue stripes down the sides , but it was repainted prior to sale to Vern Powell , and Im not sure if this is the repainted scheme , or the earlier one .

Thanks guys. I got a reply from Graham but sadly he doesn't know anything about the aircraft's WWII history either.

ZK-BSN was the first Tiger I ever flew in and some time later on, she took me for my first Tiger solo. She is a special machine to me. Thanks yet again GMO
