apparently, a cessna 172 has crash-landed at thames airfield this morning. on a touch and go at the airfield, the aircraft failed to gain lift and ended up in the sewage ponds at the end of the airstrip. not the first time this has happened,i recall around 2 years ago, a CTC pilot from Hamilton doing the same thing in a similar aircraft. the plane was fromthe ardmore flying school with 2 pax on board. both have been taken to hospital with what is known as minor injuries to probably more their pride than any thing physical.

From the nothing-new-under-the-sun department, an item that appeared in 'Flight' of 22 October 1910 about an incident with a similar conclusion 100 years ago to the month: Flight 22 October 1910. Monday, the 17th inst., showed but little improvement in the weather. In spite of this a pupil brought out the new Avroplane, now fitted with a pigeon tail, for a trial run. The pupil apparently considered such preliminary practice unnecessary, so, letting the 35-h.p. Jap do its best, he rose very unsteadily with the wind. Naturally this proved more than he could manage, and after 200 yds. he came down sideways on the sewage farm, the bete noir of all beginners at Brooklands. The right-hand planes were completely smashed. Errol
