I hope this will be a thread to match the likes of "Fletcher" and "Harvard Pile". New Zealand has been home to more than 100 Hughes 369/500-series aircraft over the years. There has been a smattering of shots in this forum however I would love to see any/ALL 500 shots by our forumites. I also include the NOTAR MD520 in this idea, so feel free to post what you have......but 500Cs are preferred :-P The 500C is my all-time favourite, I spent many hours as a kid watching old film of deer recovery 500s at work in the Tararuas and also watching the made-for-TV-movies "Birds Of Prey" and "Deadly Encounter", both featuring a 500 as the "star". Wanganui Aero Work has had a couple of them over the years too, as well as local 500E operator Hill Country Helicopters, so as a kid I had a fair amount of 500 exposure! I'll kick things off with ZK-HTL, taken at this year's Warbirds Over Wanaka during the spectacular sunrise on Saturday(?) morning. Also at Wanaka an MD520. You can see the family resemblance quite clearly

Great shots guys! Interesting to see the (presumably) US Army serviceman lugging his MG42 from the Loach! Keep the shots coming, anyone with any venison shots?

Well done Agrattler, 10 points for you..
On a side note IUS has been sent off to Guam for tuna boat duty. Some young CPL is going to get a bit of a surprise when he arrives at his boat to find that paint scheme..

Great shots guys! Interesting to see the (presumably) US Army serviceman lugging his MG42 from the Loach! I believe that there is currently only one M60 in the country with the potential to be legally used in such displays. Its owner is typically firing something larger during Vietnam re-enactments.

Does anyone have any shots of - or even know of - a 500C mounted on a pole in the central North Island? In 1999 my family spent Xmas in Rotorua and I distinctly remember the poled Hughes, being such a fan of the type. I think it was outside a deer-oriented museum/attraction, possibly named Deer World. A google search has only come up with a shop in central Rotorua, and a "trip" from Taupo to Roto on Google Earth has come up with nothing.

I think Deer World is now called Taupo Adventure Park, on the Rotorua-Taupo highway. I seem to remember the -500 out the front.

Thanks for that Barnsey! I remember hounding my parents to go in there but we never did .... however we did visit Helistar just down the road and come back with a 500C-embroidered hat for Zac! Does anyone have any images of ZK-HUT and later ZK-HTH? This was the machine that had a bit of a whoopsie at an airshow: Photos from Rex Forrester's book The Helicopter Hunters.

This was the first 500 I ever got to fly in, courtesy of the boss at Noel Leeming Hawera. Was awesome to pull up and see her sitting there, when the pilots asked if anyone had any preference for what they'd like to fly in I practically yelled "500 FOR ME!".

Zac, I have been a huge fan of the 500 since my younger years, but unfortunately have no photos I can share with the forum. I personally think the T-tailed 500D-onwards with high skids are the best looking machines. The NOTAR versions do nothing for me!

High skids, yes. T-tail, no. Goodness Craig, first you poke fun at Fletchers and now you reveal your lust for the Other 500. Bah! :-P alls well, I too wish I had more photos to share. I have a new friend who has some cracker shots id love to be posted here.
