ZK-CWZ confirmed, Transavia Leasing Co.Ltd., Auckland (hire to Air Contracts Ltd.) Cr Te Rapa, Hamilton, 13Jun69. Pilot Fred Myers. Destroyed. Possibly at one of the early Fielddays (before they moved the venue to Mystery Creek).
Nice to see a photo of it after the event.

When it all goes pear shaped the PL-12 appears to like to flip on its back.

I like the fire resistant flight suit the driver of CVD is wearing. Was the red and white check scheme on CWZ only or was it an Air Contacts thing? It may help me id a photo I have.

Great photos guys, I remember back in the late 70s there was a to-do over an airtruck rolling onto its back and killing the pilot with pilots refusing to fly them until some strenghtening was done, maybe some of you fellows can shed more light on this.

Interesting that in that sequence (Masterton I guess) they're shovelling it in with a Rural loader

Great photos guys, I remember back in the late 70s there was a to-do over an airtruck rolling onto its back and killing the pilot with pilots refusing to fly them until some strenghtening was done, maybe some of you fellows can shed more light on this. The information I have (from the book "The Topdressers") is that in 1974 Graeme Brough was killed after the ZK-DMZ suffered a nose wheel collapse on takeoff and pitched inverted. Despite surviving he died as a result of not being able to breathe with the weight on top of him. DMZ had a modified noseleg, which in error had not been welded to the nosewheel tube and resulted in a fatigue crack. CAA recommended all PL.12's have the nose wheel and overturn structure redesigned. Transavia replied this had been done and was mandatory in australia one month before the accident. The Ag pilot union tried to sue Transavia on behalf of Graeme Broughs widow, but failed. No mention was made of pilot refusing to fly though I can understand that given the circumstances, the pilots would probably want to see some pretty quick action in NZ !

Interesting that in that sequence (Masterton I guess) they're shovelling it in with a Rural loader I also note the lack of a company name painted on the aircraft. As ZK-CWW was initially used by Central Aviation, perhaps the aircraft was at some form of demonstration at Masterton when these photos were taken?

And now, some action by ZK-CWU - slides dated February 1969 so the aircraft would have been almost new at that time. Transavia Leasing Co.Ltd., Auckland (hire to Air Contracts Ltd).

Note the shots of CVD and CWU are the same strip. Those cute pink fire-resistant overalls are also sitting on the wing of the first CWW shot!
Any clues as to the drivers? I'll vote for Graeme Leach in the pink.
Are you watching Leachy?
