If u look on the Fletcher FU24 Group on facebook u will see that it needs a fin mod(20K?),is no longer a dual and its cheaper to stick it in a 20'er and seafreight it to NZ. The true cost is nearer 75k and then u need somewhere to keep it.Despite many tyre kickers I have only been able to find one other syndicate(r). At 15k each for 5 people I thought it would be a goer but seems no one else has balls or the $$$$.

Try closer to $30,000 for fin mod fitted.

I guess syndicating it is now dead and buried then.A pity only 2 people showed any interest. Guess most people in the ag industry have ended up poor??Perhaps Super Air will pick it up for spares.

Saw some figures the other day that said theres only 60 fixed wing ag planes still active versus 90 ag helicopters. Probably not much demand for an old 400hp now.

Sad but true. Me, keen? Yes! Money to do it? Not so much. I'll gladly help with any non-LAME work though!
I don't know if SuperAir will pick it up, seeing as they bulldozed half a dozen a month or two back after - hopefully - stripping spares. I contacted them in October about parts and still haven't heard back.

Apropos 'Conventional' (piston engined) Fletchers' in the Waikato:
Can anyone tell me the operator/s of one seen (and heard - a lovely sound) flying roughly NE-SW across Cambridge several weeks ago (possibly en route to and from Thames) and another flying W-E last week (possibly Wednesday, although I didn't note it at the time). The latter aircraft appeared to have a white fuselage with possibly green stripes as trim. The sound was so 'rare' that my son (who was a 'Fletcher nut' when he was younger) commented that he'd not heard anything like it for a long time, years in fact.
As we normally see and hear the 'turbines' going over, who did /do these two 'furinners' belong to?
Thanks.

Great photos TRB, those first three in particular are stunning! Hopefully Dave or another who is wise in Photoshop Fu can sharpen and de-clutter them. Thanks for sharing.

Does anybody have videos of LTR flown by Bernie Haskell at airshows at Masterton, Hobsonville or the Australian Bicentennial Airshows? Cheers

Just been through this section and thought I would post a list of all the Fletchers I flew. To start James had two duals, CCT and CPO. I did my type rating in CPO and my ag training in CCT with Bob Scott in Rotorua in 1969. Jim Frogley trained with Barry Simmonds in Hastings at the same time in CPO. At that time they were both 260HP. The first 300HP model I used was BHV which I tore the undercarriage off on landing six months after starting. The other 300HP ones I flew were BHL,BIF,BIX,BXQ,BXS,BVU,CBE,CCT,CDX,CKA,CKB,CLA,CLM,CMZ,COB,CQB,CRP and CWQ. The one I flew the most was BIF, just over 3200hrs. The 400HP ones, starting with DYX were, BII,BOE,BXS,BXZ,CMY,DBZ,EGH,EGL,EGX and JAA. I received JAA when it was brand new. The first 954 model for James. I purchased it in 1983 and sold it to Super Air in 2000. Damaged JAA three times. First time was in 1982 when a con rod broke, the damages were a result of the forced landing. The paddock was not as good as I thought. The next time was in 1998 when I was working on a strip I should not have really been working on, far too wet, and slid off the side of the strip. The last time was in 2000 when the elevator came in contact with the loader. My son was driving the loader that day being the second time he had driven for me. Other 400HP Fletchers were BDS,DHY,EOE (Super Air A/c hired while JAA was on maintenance) and DMS (Central Aviation). Did a total of 7200hrs in JAA and 1150hrs in CMY. All the others varied from 900hrs down to 1hr. My first driver Eddie Sagar is mentioned quite a lot in Bernie Haskell's book. He was a big help at the start, knowing where all the strips were and giving advice on there conditions etc. Three drivers went on to be ag pilots, Murray Hargreaves, Lester Mason and the late Mark Clayton.

Dave - how many of those Fletchers are still around? Can't be many. Thanks for taking the time to list them!

42 hours dual and 94 hours solo. I did have a fortnight back in Papakura at the beginning of August for the birth of our first daughter.
