As I was supposed to go to Alexandra I was given more training than usual mainly because of what had happened to the pilot that was there just before. Did 13hrs dual and 12hrs solo on curcuits at the aerodrome as well as simulated sowing before taking first load. As it happened I did not go to Alexandra as I was given the choice of there or Warkworth three days before departing for the south. I have no regrets about my decision. Yes I did work with Bill Pentecost. Learnt a lot from him as well. Zac, the only Fletchers left from that list are BII,CQB and JAA. Interesting about JAA. John Pondes, Derek Williams, Lester Mason and Jim Summerfield all said it was the best Fletcher they had flown.

Thanks for the interesting info Dave. I had a quick look at your list and believe the following Fletchers are also still around: EGL now JLU with Super Air DMS now VH-TTD in Australia

You were lucky Dave, I started at Glen Murray Topdressing October 1963, after an hour an half circuits on a slopping one way strip time to carry loads. Went to Wanganui Aero Work to fly BIT & given 20hrs duel and solo before working. The training was well worth it.

ZK BOG piloted by Richard McBride. Taken on the 23rd Dec 2012 at Charlton Airport Gore. Top bloke Richard did some low passes so I could get some super shots. Thanks mate. Doing my semi-regular survey of the CAA register to see what interesting machines have popped up, I discovered that BOG is now part of the Ravensdown Aerowork fleet. EDIT: Today (28/11) I saw BOG fly out of and back into Hood, so I'm guessing she's Ravensdown's Wairarapa machine. Sounded great - first Fletcher I've seen fly in ages.

Zak's September 25, 2009 mystery (page 15)
That's almost undoubtedly in the "old" line-up along the fence at Masterton when flown by a Thorne Twin and is mid-50s - about the time of the film that's on here somewhere recently

Growing up in the Wairarapa, I remember well the distinctive - and lovely - sound of the Fletchers. Spent many an hour watching them doing their top dressing runs. Built a large RC model of one based on the full size that was based in Pukekohe at the time. Lovely model to fly and looked realistic doing a dressing run - I used sifted wood ash out of the wood burner - took about one and a half litres of ash in the hopper. Was powered by a .90 (15cc) two stroke and the model had a wing span of just over 2.1metre.

Top work teals1, that's gorgeous!
To my eternal shame I have only recently started backing-up my laptop: some months back a routine Windows update wiped everything, including goodness-knows how many Fletcher photos.
Devastatingly, this included a bunch of ZK-CBG photos practically from the beginning of its life. If anyone has any photos of it that they're able and willing to share please get in touch.

Oh Zac, I am sorry to hear that mate. That is something I fear with my Auster rebuild. I have scans from some of the old Air Force boys that I would hate to loose. I back up, but not nearly as often as I should!

Hey look, a jazzed up passenger version of the old Fletcher, haha Yep, she came here and served as CCT for many years, initially as James' dual control trainer in Rotorua. Tragically scrapped a year or so ago - she deserved much better

It must have been a very noisy passenger plane?

My powers of "searching" are very limited, and I can't locate a few posts from several years ago about 3 FU24s in containers somewhere in Northern NSW. I'm sure one of them was VH-BBG, which I think was the Pays prototype 400 conversion.
Didn't I later see that one of them was heading back here?
Can anyone help?
Cheers

Thanks Ray; yep, that's it.
I never knew the old CZB had been retired!
Can you find me the original thread though? Please?
Cheers
