Hi folks, my name is Eric Hollingsworth. I'm from the state of Mississippi, is the US. Love aviation, but particularly WWII aviation. Been flying for about 20 years and warbirds for about 10 years. I currently fly North American AT-6 Texans, and most recently began operation the P-40N Chuzy Suzy. Only about 4 hrs on the stick in the Warhawk, but thoroughly enjoying that opportunity.
We'll be taking Suzy to several shows this year. We have her history since recovery from the jungle in the 70s, so I'm seeking any information that can be offered on her service in PNG. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Serial number is 41-105861, US Reg NL49FG
Thank you all for letting me participate in this group. I'm looking forward to browsing the threads and learning more!

What's your name? Lemuel Where are you from? South Island. Spent a lot of time in Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin. How old are you? In my 30s What is your main interest in aviation? I have a broad interest in aviation history, both military and civilian. I'm a historical researcher, blogger and documentary filmmaker, and occasionally get to explore my interest in aviation history through those mediums. I'm also a collector of historical ephemera, which sometimes includes items relating to aviation history. Tell us about your background in aviation? I'm just an enthusiast. Likely inherited much of my interest in aviation from my two grandfathers who both worked in the aviation industry. Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? No. Are you an aircraft modeller? Not at the moment but enjoyed it when I was a kid. Have too many hobbies at the moment but might get back into it when I find the time. What are your favourite aviation books? I've got a lot of respect for Errol Martyn's works on NZ aviation history. I see that he is an active member of this forum. What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? Like most others here, Battle of Britain is a favourite film. I also enjoy the Czech film 'Dark Blue World', and the old BBC series 'Wings'. Do you frequent other aviation forums? No
I've happened across many threads on here over the years and felt it was about time that I registered to try and contribute back to the community when I can.

Greetings
My name is Ian James I am from Upper Hutt My father was Athol (Jimmy) JAMES DFM W/O A391328. 24 January 1920 – 22 February 1986. He was founding member of 75 Squadron joining on 24 April 1940. He flew as rear gunner on 30 raids between 17 June 1940 and 20 August 1941. For 22 of those raids his pilot was "Popeye" Lucas. He was then posted to 37 Squadron operating in the Middle East on 21 October 1941. He participated in a further 24 raids until 19 May 1942. From 28 August 1942 to 6 November 1942 he was a gunnery instructor at 2 AGS before returning to NZ where he undertook pilot training commencing on 6 March and culminating in getting his wings 19 September 1944. He was awarded the DFM by the King at Buckingham Palace on 30 March 1943. I have his Air Gunners logbook covering his overseas service and his Pilots logbook. I have transcribed and annotated these logbooks into a word doc that I am happy to share with anyone who is interested.

Unfortunately I don't. Besides his logbooks and medals I have a few newspaper articles from when he was awarded the DFM. I also have his survival pouch containing French francs notes and Italian lira notes as well as very detailed maps of Europe printed on rice paper. A couple of years ago, to celebrate my late father and those with whom he served, I commissioned Matt Gauldie, NZ Army artist, to make a bronze statue of a bomber command aircrew circa 1941. I got Matt to cast 3 of them - 1 each for my 2 brothers and me. They are beautiful pieces each standing 44cm tall and weighing 7.2kg. If I can figure out how to load a photo here I would be happy to let others see the bronze. Regarding my father's logbook entries, I noted there are a few Wellingtons he listed as having flown in during his time on 75 Sqn that are not on the lists in the No. 75 (NZ) Squadron Wellingtons thread.

I'd be interested to know more about the logbook details too, please.

HI, I'm Sheryl and live in Australia but born in New Zealand. I know very little of my father's family other than his brother (my uncle) Jack Hanlon died during an aerobatic display in a Tiger Moth in the south island of New Zealand in the 1970's. Is there some aviation history on him? Ever since I heard of his passing as a young child (I don't recall meeting him) I have been fascinated with the sky. Wanted to fly - Jumped from planes - hot air balloon... perhaps it's in the blood. Would love to fly in a Tiger Moth - on my bucket list.
Any history on Jack or his family would be gratefully received.

I can't tell you any more than you know, but I knew Jack when I was working at Taieri in 1965/66, at the time when Hugh Skilling was CFI at the Aero Club, we were most upset over the accident. isc

Jack Hanlon was well known in the aviation fraternity in Dunedin and Otago. He was owner of DH82a ZK-AKH, and I recall he was an amateur aircraft constructor and also owned a hot air balloon ZK-FBA, which was one of the first "modern" hot air balloons in NZ. He featured regularly in the Wings magazine, and his balloon flights were regularly reported in the Otago Daily Times and The Evening Star in Dunedin. The airshow where Jack crashed was for the formation of the Waimate Aero Club & re-opening of the Waimate Airfield, which is still in use today located beside SH1 just south of the Waimate turnoff, beside the river
