Great to have you both here. Tim, I'm interested to see/hear more about your modelling interests, including the Norwegian squadrons in the RAF. Sounds really interesting.

Thanks for the welcome Dave.
In terms of my interest in the Norwegian squadrons in the RAF, it came about as my girlfriend is Norwegian and I lived in Norway for a time. Just came out of that, they also tend to be some of the most "colourful" of RAF examples from the time with Norwegian coloured fin flashes on the rudders, cannon barrels in the 2 Norwegian Spitfire squadrons (331 and 332). The personnel also often have some very interesting personal stories as they had to to escape occupied Norway to make it to the Norwegian forces in exile in Britain. Bit off topic though :-)
With rhe RNZAF stuff, I have a 1/72 Fujimi A-4 which I'm converting to a Kiwi A-4K on the go at the mo and a 1/72 MB-339 which I will be converting to a 14 Sqn 339CB coming up some time.
Cheers,
Tim.

What's your name? Joe Oldfield
Where are you from? Auckland NZ
How old are you? 32
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... I enjoy historic, classic and military aviation. I love tail wheel flying.
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? I have loved flying and aviation for as long as i can recall. I started flying gliders as an ATC cadet at RNZAF Hobsonville and it went from there really. When I left school i worked in an office to earn enough money to learn to fly. I became a flying instructor, and that has been my main involvement and contribution in aviation. After nearly 3000hrs of instructing I am looking to move into the airlines.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? I fly with Auckland Aero Club, spend a few Sunday evenings in the NZ Warbirds Bar. Was an ATC officer until last year.
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) I used to build scale plastic kits frequently, and now very occassionally as time permits. I still have about 30 unassembled kits laying about.
What are your favourite aviation books? Too many to list, but my favourite aviation books are second world war themed. Strangely enough, i found Chickenhawk by Robert Mason very memorable, and ive never flown a helicopter!
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? Again, too many to list. My all time favourite would have to be Battle of Britain.
Do you frequent other aviation forums? Sometimes visit Pprune, but not so much these days.
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? Its all good so far...

What's your name? Rob Wettenhall
Where are you from? Berwick, Victoria
How old are you? 60
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... All aspects interest me, but really enjoy 1940-1960 era. Particularly interested in warbirds and 'eastern bloc' types. Attended Wanaka a couple of times, and hope to get to Blenheim one year. Also enjoy restoration/homebuilding.
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? A private pilot for around 35 years and owned a Tri Pacer, Auster AOP9 which I restored, Wilga and currently a Yak52. Also built a Thorp T18 which I managed to prang. Biggest buzz was soloing a Harvard at Point Cook, but DH 82 pretty special. Really enjoy formation flying, and low G aero's.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? Australian Warbirds, Antique Aircraft Assoc., and Peninsula Aero Club. Have been involved with the organisation/admin of the Tyabb Airshows.
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) As a kid got hooked on dope and the smell of ether based fuels. Control line and free flight. Still have a Cox 'Pee Wee' stored somewhere.
What are your favourite aviation books? Pierre Closterrman's 'The Big Show'. 'Saggitarius Rising', 'Sigh for a Merlin'. Also 'Reach for the Sky' and 'The Dam Busters'. A business colleague is Paul Brickhill......nephew of the author. And W E Johns has a lot to answer for.
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? '12 O'Clock High'. It is also a great story about man-management.
Do you frequent other aviation forums? No
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? I like it pretty much the way it is.

Whats your name? - Andy
Where are you from? - Adelaide, Australia
How old are you? - 23
Main interests in aviation? - WWII, particulary RAAF history and of course the warbirds from this era.
tell us your background in aviation. - Always been keen on aircraft since I was a kid. Was in the AIRTC and later learnt to fly with the royal Queensland Aero Club. I went solo at 16 and a half years old but soon joined the Army at the age of 17 straight after school. Unfortunately haven't flown since (too expensive) although had many flights in C-130's, blackhawk and a seaKing whilst in the Army. Also obtained my Para wings with 7 jumps out of a Herc (including a night jump) good fun but scared the hell out of me at the time! Also saw a LOT of a/c whilst deployed on the HMAS Kanimbla for the start of the Iraq war (all friendly luckily!). On the warbird side of things, I had a 30 minute aerobatic session in a Nanchang for my birthday last year - highly recommended!
What are your favourite aviation books? - Well anything about the RAAF in WWII I'll find interesting, however some highlights are "Buffaloes Over Singapore" excellent account of RAF,RAAF,RNZAF and Dutch pilots battling overwhelming odds at Malaya and Singapore. "The Gestapo Hunters" also another excellent book about 464sqn RAAF flying Ventura's and then Mossies in the ETO. At the moment I'm reading "Desert Warriors" about Australian P-40 pilots in the Middle East and North Africa - also very interesting.
Favourite aviation films? - Always loved "Midway" though very inaccurate when it comes to showing the correct a/c, and "A Wing And A Prayer" also another fav of mine.
Enough about me, I hope I can contribute to the forum in some way and look forward to getting to know you guys. Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Andy. It's great to have you aboard.
Out of interest, do you find there are many other aviation enthusiasts in the Army? If so, spread the word and invite them here too.

Hi Dave, whats ironic I guess is that I love aircraft, so I went and joined the Army as an Air defence Gunner! As for other enthusiasts I can only remember one bloke, and he was only interested in modern stuff. Most of the guys in the Regiment (I'm no longer in the Army BTW) got sick of the site of planes because of all the aircraft recce lessons and tests we had to do!

Name: Martin Woodhall From: Christchurch NZ Age: 63 Main Aviation interest: Historic Civil and Military Aviation Background: All second-hand. Born at Exeter while father was CO there - Mother was ex-WAAF CO at Duxford (who married her CO!). In NZ used to hang around Queenstown aerodrome when Southern Scenic flew there and thoughtfully left an old Anson behind the hangar for we kids to play in. And you could get a lift to a strip in Kawerau gorge in the hopper of a top-dressing Tiger Moth or hitch a ride to Milford in a Proctor. Ah but those were the days! Virtually had a scholarship to Cranwell in the bag but failed the eysight test through lack of sufficient binocular vision (inherited from a father who flew thus for 20 years). Don't belong to any aviation groups but have attended a few in various guises Used to model aircraft before plastic kits were available - both flying and display Favourite Aviation books: Tattered Battlements, Ten Little Fighter Boys (there's a post for a forum, who were they?) - to be truthful, ever since Wing Leader and Reach for the Sky, my favourite aviation book tends to be the last read. Just now Hess is vying with All the Fine Young Eagles Favourite Aviation films used to be Reach For the Sky and 633 Squadron and Angels one Five, latterly Dark Blue World.

What's your name? Bob Where are you from? Wellington
How old are you? 63
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... ...mainly just the fact that something man made has the ability to make us mere mortals cringe with delight at their various shapes and noises and that they all seem to get off the ground in the first place Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? No backgrond in aviation - once lived in a family home where you could sit and watch all the flying (and shipping) activity at Wellington and a veiw that took in Evans Bay and Cook Strait
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? No - Like breaking rules - not creating them - it's more fun
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) no....... not now - but once built a scale balsa MK-II Spitfire with a 7' wing span - it got to the 'finishing stage' and it stayed that way until 1985 I/we moved to tauranga - it did a 'final flight' loaded with fireworks................. spectacular way to end the dream............ (it was too big to transport) ;-) and never got the chance again to do any modeling... Did a stint mangaing Camera stores in the early 80's for three years - and got the photograpy bug........ Recently took this up again only this time the digital kind..... have had some success submitting to various sites like Airliners.net and Jetphotos.net If you look at my web site you'll note the 'Air2Air' hint - it's what I'd like to have the chance to do at some stage if someone is interested........ ;-) What are your favourite aviation books? Once read Reach for the Sky - can to tell why?
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? anything avionic.........
Do you frequent other aviation forums? no
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? keep up the good work..........

Hi and welcome citabria, or is that airbatic spelled backwards?
I hope you enjoy the site. It has sure given me a place to exhibit my photos, receive constructive opinions and chat with NZ and Aussie members.
I did a few hours in a Decathlon out of Bankstown some years ago. Frightened myself silly trying to land the bouncy thing on its main wheels. I loved side-slipping in though and the limited aeros I did in it under supervision were entertaining.
