Welcome Dave, it's nice to have you here. You have an interesting flying background, I'll bet you have some interesting tales to tell.
I never knew Christopher Reeves did a film called The Aviator (is it based on the Howard Hughes story too or completely different?). I haven't seen High Road To China since i was a kid, I'd like to see it again someday.

Thanks for the welcome. The Christopher Reeves "Aviator" was based on a E. Gann book I believe. It's about a brokenn down airmail pilot who is a loner. Gets handed a teenage girl to fly along with the packages. He's not thrilled with that. Plane crashes, fight to survive kind of thing. Not as sappy as it sounds.
Great movie.

What's your name?
Keith Webb
Where are you from?
Melbourne, Australia
How old are you?
51
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military...
Military WW2 mainly, but also an interest in historic prop aircraft. I also have a strong interest in Canadian Military Pattern Vehicles - you chaps call them 'puddle jumpers'.
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background?
No, I'm not a pilot although I have had some hands on in some of the warbirds. It started because my dad was in the RAAF with 6 Squadron RAAF (WOP/AG), my Uncle was killed on the night of the Dambusters raid flying a Hampden with 415 Squadron RCAF and when I was in my teens my best friend's father was a pilot in 3 Squadron RAAF flying Kittyhawks.
Currently my involvement is in filming warbirds and making DVDs. I made the Temora Warbirds DVD and am working on a new one for Temora featuring the Ryan Boomerang and Hudson. I'm also involved with the good folks at Tyabb, and have made a couple of DVDs of their airshows.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?
Spitfire Society (U.K.)
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)
I used to be in my teens, made most of the Airfix models then blew them up with firecrackers in the interests of making photographs.
What are your favourite aviation books?
Reach for the Sky, Spitfire - a test pilot's story (Jeffrey Quill) The Searchers (Jim Eames) Hunting Warbirds, really almost anything related to WW2.
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?
BoB, the original Tora Tora Tora, and many others - I have a theory that even the most dreadful aviation film can be made great with judicious re-editing. Pearl harbour for instance would make a stunning 5 minute film.
Do you frequent other aviation forums?
PlaneTalk
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? Not yet - let me think about that for a while.

Welcome Keith. The DVD featuring the Hudson sounds very much of interest to me (my favourite bomber!) - can you post a message on the forum when it's available please.
Your comment on re-editing Pearl Harbor is smashing! So funny yet so true.

Here's a snippet for you Dave The pilot is Doug Hamilton who usually displays it. Doug is also a member of the famous Southern Knights Harvard display team and is the owner of a Harvard and Ceres (Wirraway-based cropduster) among other aircraft. Will let you know when it's available. Have you seen the first Warbirds DVD? You can get it from the Museum's website. PS Here's another of the Hudson landing.

Welcome to the forum, Keith. Can't wait to see the new Temora Aviation Museum dvd: if it's half as good as the first one, then it will be excellent. Keep up the good work.

Hi All, As Dave has suggested in introduction. I found this group late last year and have been checking it regularly as I'm interested in the historic and current RNZAF. My father was in the RAF during WWII so I often heard his memories of his time in the air force then I was exposed first hand when as I child we lived in Singapore during the Confrontation with Indonesia. Somehow the RAF found he was working in Singapore and they had a shortage of DF operators so he spent some months attached to the RAF working in the DF hut situated in the middle of the Changi runways. At that time my parents became friends with several members of 41 Sqn. When we returned to NZ I became a member of the North Shore Sqn of the ATC. For various reasons I eventually joined the Army (much to dads horror ). My one tiny claim to fame in relation to the air force was putting together an article which described the history of No 1 & 2 LAA Sqns, RNZAF which later became 51 & 52 LAA Sqns RNZAF. When I started researching them even the RNZAF Museum were unaware of their existence. So thats me. Despite my apparent bad start on the LAV thread I hope to be a positive contributor from time to time Paul

Welcome Paul.
It sounds like you had some interesting times in Singapore.
Can you elaborate on what the LAA Squadrons were please? Is that Light Anti-Aircraft? We have another resident forumite with a keen interest in the anti-aircraft guys so if it is, Steve will be interested.
