Hi all.
The name's Zac Yates, 19 age old, Wanganui born and bred, mad about warbirds and have been since birth. Also a very keen modeller (look out for my work at ModelingMadness.com), and a big fan of the vintage/warbird scene in NZ.
Not much of a family history in aviation other than my Dad flew with Charlie Anderson for some years with Wanganui Aero Work. I've been involved with the Wanganui Airport Control Tower Restoration Group, a current and proud member of Marlborough Warbirds, and a subscriber and long-time reader of Classic Wings. I've attempted to syndicate a Nanchang here but there just wasn't the interest. Maybe in a couple of years' time.
You may have seen me strolling around Classic Fighters this Easter dressed as Howard Hughes, grey suit and aviators. Great fun!
Looking forward to meeting all you guys and having some keen discussions on the board, I've been looking for a place like this for some years and I;m so glad to have found you!

Welcome Zac! You sound very keen, great to hear.
Have you got a photo of you as Howard hughes, I don't think I spotted you at the show. Great choice of costume though.

8-)No probs with the first one there, Dave: I know I know, I really needed a fedora but I just couldn't get one in time. And, with all the hat merchants on the field, only one sold anything remotely similar, but it was too small! I ended up just getting a Classic Fighters-branded straw hat on Sunday! I'll see what I can do on the control tower - I should mention that the group is yet to work on the tower, or even gain access to it. The lack of activity is what forced me to withdraw from the group. If they get something accomplished I'll post it as soon as possible.

Hi all,
I have lurked here for a little while but deceded to join in.
Im generally interested in war planes of all types, mostly ww2 but I have a growing interest and library of ww1. As a hobby I create paintschemes for the flight sim IL2, mostly Luftwaffe types but Im allways keen of any type of single engined fighter and have done many kiwi flown machines aswell as USAAF Mustangs. Its a tough process as I generally like to have at least one photo of the real machine and not just some profile which may or may not be near accurate. Im currently studying Computer graphics and am helping on the side with a ww2 game mod of the upcoming quakewars in both the historical equipement side and texturing of models.
Im here to listen and learn more than anything, I dont think my knowledge of RNZAF history will come close to what ive seen already.

Welcome to you both, koru and phas3e
Koru, I'm sure we'd all like to hear more on the beaching of AMA. Now that you're a member you should be able to post to the thread. Was there some problem preventing this? If so, let me know what it is and I'll try to get it sorted.
phas3e, feel free to post some screenshots of your NZ fighters, and others as well. Looking forward to seeing them.

Hello all,
Thought I may as well post here as well. As I have mentioned in my other posts I am A canuck living in Vancouver Canada. I lived for a short time in your great Country first in Browns Bay and the Rororua. I worked at the Quattro Pub and was the head chef of Freos in Rotorua. I was lucky enough to have flown the DC 3 out of Ardmour andw as given access to the Confederate's Airforce's hangar at Dairy Flats. Spent the day at Whenuipie wings and wheels, Flew Ansett before they were gone and checked out the South island. I did unfortunately miss Wings over Wanika though.
Looking forward to participating with you all.

There is a gliding board which needs more prominence, so I will bring it out to the front (currently it's tucked away as a sub-board of Civil). I hope you guys will enjoy using it, it will be good for the rest of us to learn a bit about gliding.
Welcome to all our recent memebrs by the way. Lots of people are joining up lately but not so many are joining in. Feel free to jump into the chat any time.

My main interest is old aircraft rebuilding - and have a couple of Projects underway. I'm ex-RNZAF Engineer 82-91 and have worked as an airline engineer since then.
Think the Forum is pretty good - thanks Dave ! especially the Historical stuff such as the old photos that are posted from time to time.
Have been looking for some photos of the wartime Harvards on 2 or 4 OTU....does anyone have any they could post ?

Now I have to apologies, I've been here for a short while but hadn't posted like this. Actually I'd done one in the wrong thread but was only short. What's your name? Bradley WhiteWhere are you from? Levin, ManawatuHow old are you? 25What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... My interest if solely in military aircraft of the WWII era but I've recently started into Nam and CurrentTell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? I believe my enthusiasm for aircraft started when i was really young when I was given my first model (I think) as a young pup. The earliest models I can remember having is the Monogram 1/72 F-105 G Thunderchief and 1/72 P-40. I've loved them ever since without flinching but slowed a little of late as I've been finishing the renovations on my house (98% done).Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? Noooooo....alas I don't belong to any groups but I frequent the airshows at Wings over Wairarapa. Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) Purely scale (1/72 & 1/48 - biggest is the Monogram 1/48 B-29 10 years in the making and 1/48 Tamiya Lancaster same # of years )What are your favourite aviation books? Desmond Scotts: Typhoon Pilot Squadron/Signal series (have multiple books) Multiple othersWhat are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? I collect aviation documentry DVD's. Menphis Belle, Dark Blue Sky (recomended) etc.Do you frequent other aviation forums? Only this one
