CPW is about to have a new CofA and will hopefully be attending Wanaka Warbirds in 2012. CLW is currently in storage with Lindsay McNicol near Oamaru.

ZK-CPW hadn't flown for some time and was stored on the Gore Airfield, Lindsay McNicol purchased it after Southern Aviation issued a new C of A. On behalf of Lindsay I took delivery of it from Gore 12th Sept 1990. I used it and delivered it to Lindsay on 22nd Sept 1990. I don't think it done much after that. I remember I wanted CPW out of my paddock because of lambing. I took it up to him expecting him to passenger back with me, but he was having problems and seamed to have too many aircraft so he sent me back home in C185 ZK-FNX which I then for a couple of months.

Hi Craig, I think the tail (or some of it at least) was taken from a Cherokee at the time Yeoman (Wackett) were changing the design from wooden to all metal. This was due to a CAA Australia regulation from around 1962 I think. Therefore some Cherokee parts may be compatible.

I have heard that too but doesn't appear the same. Would you know what model Piper?

Hi mate, I don't off hand. In May I am back in NZ and I have a copy of Aerial Agriculture in Australia stored there and I think that might be where I read that detail from. It would have to be an early model as we are talking early to mide 1960's. I will endeavour to check with my contacts for you, some of the older guys at bankstown probably built it so can verify. I will be in touch.

Thanks would really appreciate that. I currently have what remains of CTX sitting in my shed with the option tp purchase. Unfortunately it is in very bad repair with alot of corrosion and bits missing. I am sure it will be a money black hole if I commit to rebuild with a good chance would never get back to C of A standard. But my father was chief pilot when Southern Aviation was operating cropmasters and as such flew significant hours on 4 of the 6 imported to NZ. So guess it has sentimental value!? Would love to fly one some day they have the most stunning wing. Shame to waste it on an dung duster really

No. No. Come on, man. Look at the shape. The Fletcher relates to the Cherokee. Both share characteristics, having each come from the drawing board of John Thorp.
Bill Smith of Yeoman Aviation was a thoroughly modern bloke and so was much more impressed with a slightly earlier and much cleaner design, the Comanche.
CDI (now VH-FBC) is at Wagga. Some major work has been completed but the project is currently on hold.
Cheers

ZK-CDI's nose over happened at North Shore around the fuelpump area (which was uneven at the time).
