Is it metal?,Tiger hoppers would most likely be built from aluminium or similar as weight was a critical factor. They were also made of plywood and canvas. They would also be have flat sides,if what you have found is round you've most likely found an old tractor mounted fertiliser spreader.

Its aluminum with solid rivets, its recutanglar with the bottom half the tapering in, are distinctly different angles (this feature was noted by Ozzie James in a speech he gave to RAeS in the 90"s). The top is curved, with a cutout shaped like a cockpit cutout, with a approximate 1/2" diameter edge trim. These also other tiger bits in the dump.

As far as shape and proportions go it does look very much like a Tiger Moth hopper - good spotting! Have you seen the Photo albums on the Wanagnui Aero Work site - it has some images of Ag - Tigers loading that may help for example: see www.aerowork.co.nz

The Gisborne aviation museum guys have got a couple of ex-Fieldair Tigers that spent years stashed away in a freezing works. They might still have the hopper installed. Maybe they could help you ID your find.

It is possibly out off ZK-BCF or a donor frame used to rebuild it after its crash (it later went missing as ZK-BGS).
Would like to know who was the owner of ZK-BGS when it went missing.
