Well, well - the Harry Stunell who wrote the letter emigrated to New Zealand with his wife and young son about 1963 and became very close friends of my parents. The Stunells moved from Upper Hutt to Featherston then Palmerston North, where Win became ill and passed away in early 1967. Following this, Harry and his son David returned to the UK but he continued to write to Mum up until her passing in 2001.
During his time here, Harry put a lot of work into a plan for the little town of Rata in the Manawatu to become a retirement town for WW2Air Force vets after the dairy factory closed down, but nothing came of this. He was involved with one Frickleton VC in this scheme.
Google Harry Stunell - there's a nice tale on there and typical of the Harry I remember so well.
