Messages may be addressed to The late Noel Crump c/- PO Box 39001, Christchurch 8545. The current situation, limits us to a private cremation. From Colin Hanson’s By Such Deeds – Honours and awards in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, 1923 – 1999 : CRUMP, Master Air Electronics Operator Noel Joseph, MBE, (cvsa). A73577; Born Horarata, 18 Sep 1930; RNZAF 25 May 1949 to 18 Sep 1977 & 13 Aug 1979 to 18 Sep 1990; Telegraphist, Air Signaller, then Master Air Electronics Operator. Citation Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air (NY1973): Master Signaller Crump enlisted in the RNZAF as a Telegraphist in May 1949, but after two years service was transferred to air signaller duties. He has served continuously on flying duties since then and was promoted to Master Signaller [MSig] in May 1962. MSig Crump is presently employed as the Signals Leader on 3 Squadron. MSig Crump has served with distinction in both the maritime and transport roles, flying in Catalina, Sunderland, Hastings, DC6, Dakota and Bristol Freighter aircraft. Additionally, he qualified as a signaller instructor in 1957 and has since completed two tours of duty as an instructor flying in Devon aircraft. He has previously filled appointments as Signals Leader on 5 (Maritime) Squadron and in Transport Wing Headquarters. He has now completed twenty years continuous flying duties and has been assessed as ‘above average’ for the last fifteen years. Throughout the whole of his service MSig Crump has set an exemplary standard and maintained an exceptionally high level of professional competence. He has, because of the nature of his flying duties, endured inconvenience and disruption to his personal life to an unusual degree, without complaint. Indeed, his dedication to his Service caused him to accept far more than his share of out of working hours duties, and he has always placed Service interest before his own. Having amassed a total of 7,225 flying hours, 252 having been completed in the last six months, MSig Crump has made an outstanding contribution to the operational effectiveness of his Service. Citation Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (QB1985): Master Air Electronics Operator (MAEOp) Crump joined the RNZAF as a telegraphist in 1949. He was seconded to aircrew service in 1951 and served in that capacity until 1977 when he was released, on completion of his contract, after twenty-eight years’ service. During this period he served with distinction and was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. MAEOp Crump rejoined the RNZAF in 1979 and is currently employed as an Operations Officer at RNZAF Base Wigram. During the past five years MAEOp Crump has continually impressed all concerned with his efficiency in his primary appointment as an Operations Officer. He totally applies himself to his duties, to the detriment of his personal life, and this dedication has resulted in a unique ability to anticipate needs and prepare for any eventuality. He has demonstrated a high degree of resourcefulness and the end result has been a smooth flow of supporting services, despite continually changing circumstances. MAEOp Crump’s contribution, however, goes far beyond the defined parameters of his duties and he has frequently accepted extra onerous responsibilities so as to effect the timely and adequate provision of facilities for RNZAF aircraft. MAEOp Crump’s superior performance, resourcefulness, and dedication was exemplified on 5 May 1984 when a call was made on the RNZAF for the emergency medical evacuation of a patient from the Chatham Islands. MAEOp Crump had already completed his normal daily duties when he was recalled shortly after 1700 hours. He received the initial request and acting on his own initiative and without supervision called out the crew, provided full briefing information and co-ordinated all supporting services for the flight. During the flight, high-frequency radio communications proved difficult so he assumed control, established and maintained communications himself, thereby providing an effective command link. He passed relevant information to air traffic control thereby relieving the aircraft crew of this responsibility. MAEOp Crump’s period of duty in the operations room, went through until after 1900 hours on 6 May with less than 3 1/2 hours break. MAEOp Crump has consistently sought out and assumed responsibility in order to provide every possible support for RNZAF aircraft and their crews. His overall excellent performance, extending beyond the defined limits of his duties is an inspiration to all those associated with him and his outstanding contribution to the safe and efficient operations of RNZAF aircraft now merits formal recognition. John Seymour, a great friend and passionate Kiwi passed away last week. Too young and taken by the evil bastard that is cancer. John was a forum member (Spinnaker) - a frequent visitor but not a frequent poster here on WONZ but shared our passion for aviation attending every airshow possible and taking great delight in posting his photography on various sites under the title 'Hawkridge Aviation Photography' including Facebook. John joined my oldest son & another friend for a 3 week trip around the UK in July 2018, his first time to the UK where we went to 5 airshows and as many museums and places of military / historical interest as we could cram in. It was the trip of a lifetime for all of us. Blue skies mate.

Sad to hear we lost another forum member, Stuart. And sorry for your loss too.
NZ Warbirds sent out the following notice this afternoon:
Dear Members and Friends
It is with great sadness that I must advise that long time NZWA supporter Chris Brown peacefully passed away at Middlemore Hospital last Sunday following a battle with illness.
Chris and Lesley have been avid supporters of NZWA since 1997, involved with the DC-3 syndicate since its inception and more latterly the Catalina Society.
It is intended to hold a memorial service for Chris when able.

I’ve just seen this on the NZ Herald website: “British World War II veteran Denis Albert Moore, 94, can now be named as one of New Zealand's 17 coronavirus-related deaths. He died in Waikato Hospital on April 16.“ Their photo is of him in front of a modern glider, hence my posting this here. The story: www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12327463
