I just saw my longtime mate Bob Peake has passed away. He was a great chap, and a WWII RNZAF veteran. He worked on the Ansons at New Plymouth, and then in the engine overhaul line at RNZAF Station Hamilton, and finally at Rukuhia in No. 1 Storage Depot. He was the cousin of the late Bryan Cox, and Bob gets a mention in Bryan's book Too Young To Die. Really sad, another great local veteran gone. PEAKE, Robert Budgen: Passed away peacefully at Resthaven on 17th April 2022, aged 96 years. Cherished husband of the late Norma. Loving father of Tony & Leslie, Jennifer & Chris, Gill & Tony, and Kate & Francis. Loved and respected Grandpa to 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Loved big brother of Nancy (Wellington).'Special thanks to the staff at Resthaven Home and Hospital and Dr Alf Pinfold for the care and support shown over many years.' A private family burial has taken place at Hautapu Cemetery. All communications to The Peake Family, c/- 3 Hallys Lane, Cambridge 3434. Ian Sexton was of course the instigator and editor of the 2-volume set on the WW2 history of the RNZAF radar organization. Cannot locate my copies of them at the moment, but it was a rather monumental work! Ian thoughtfully presented me with a set many years ago, although most sets were distributed to the ex-radar men themselves. I would guess that these volumes will show up on the second-hand market from time to time, considering very few of the originals will be alive now.

Indeed, they held a reunion and he asked the veterans to write their memories. He compiled all that flooded in into the first book, and I think the book generated a load more memories flooding in and necessitated a second volume.
In all these years I have never once seen a copy of wither come up for sale though. Rare as hen's teeth.
Hamilton City Library's copies are the only ones I have ever seen.

His first appointment was in the Air Staff, Defence Headquarters, where he worked in the Aeronautical Engineering cell of Technical Services. He was subsequently posted to RNZAF Auckland as Officer Commanding Technical Wing, and in April 1979 he was posted to Operations Group Headquarters as the Senior Engineering officer. While he was employed at Auckland, Group Captain Knight also held the appointment of Technical Trade Structure Project Officer. In 1981 Group Captain Knight became the Commanding Officer of No 1 Repair Depot at RNZAF Base Woodbourne - a position he held until temporarily assuming the appointment of Base Commander RNZAF Woodbourne in August 1984. He assumed his present position as Chief of Air Force Technical Services in Air Staff in January 1985. In the thirteen years that Group Captain Knight has been in the RNZAF he has demonstrated high professional competence and enterprise. In particular, since 1985, he has been providing the technical guidance and leadership to two major RNZAF projects - namely RIGEL (the P3B update to P3K) and KAHU (the total systems rebuild of the A4 Skyhawk). The success of these projects will ensure the effectiveness of the RNZAF in two of its major roles through to the turn of the century. It is an acknowledgement of the contribution he has to make that Defence Council saw fit to extend Group Captain Knight beyond normal retiring age in order that he may continue to provide the leadership, resourcefulness, and management skills upon which the RNZAF has come to rely. Group Captain Knight has served the RNZAF with distinction and dedication. Errol
