... in accordance with Dick's wishes, a private cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Kapiti Aero Club, 25 Dakota Road, Paraparaumu ( next to Kapiti Airport ) on Wednesday, 20 January 2016, at 2pm. "
Dick Patston was a CFI of the Wellington and Wairarapa Gliding Club at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton, way back in the days. A very nice bloke and a good instructor.

This one saddens me as I'd never heard of him till now, I wish I'd met him - I believe he flew Catalinas in WWII: VANDY, James Walter (Jim): Suddenly but peacefully, at Resthaven Home & Hospital, on Saturday, 16 January 2016, aged 93 years, one month after his dear wife Joy. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Elizabeth & Quentin Mines, Chris & Jen, Simon and Nigel & Pam. Cherished Grandfather Jim to 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life for Jim will be held at Resthaven Quiet Room, Vogel Street, Cambridge on Thursday, 21 January 2016 at 1:00pm, followed by a private cremation. Sad to see the passing of an officer and gentleman Bryan Francis. I flew with him on several occasions at NATS in the mid 1970s on Navexs and SAR missions. Also worked with him at Air Staff later on. A quietly spoken man who was always looking to help others. Bryan, you will be missed.

Ron was found by neighbours when he did not get his washing off the line.
There will be NO funeral, No notice in the papers at his request.
Ron will be remembered for his photo collection and his reporting in Aviation Historical Journals of aircraft movements

A bad day for my old mates! Ron was a great friend and colleague. He introduced me to the AHSNZ in 1968, and by then had an extensive photo collection of NZ military and civil aircraft. Was a keen Dxer and spent most of his spare time monitoring the international HF radio frequencies copying down the movements of international aircraft. Ron served at Wigram, Fiji, Wellngton, Singapore and Whenuapai. After he retired worked at Christchurch airport as a parking warden.
