Another great mate has passed over! When I was flight commander Comms at Wigram in the mid 1970s Ron and I embarked on several major changes to improve the general operations of the comms flight, rebuilding the comcen and radio room. The night that the DC10 crashed on Mt Erubus Ron and I spent the night at wigram transmitters and comcen maintaining an HF watch for an Orion that had been dispatched south to look for the aircraft as at that time is was thought it may have come down in the southern ocean. We had several interesting adventures during those years. He will be missed.

I was shocked to read tonight of Don Steer's demise. I knew him well from EM21 at 2TTS and in the 1980's employed him briefly at PAC. I had no idea he was that ill or in Waikato Hospital just 15km from me and now I have missed his funeral. Don was Electrical, and in early years is remembered as the guy with the yellow 1948 Mercury V8 Coupe. The poor guy was almost killed in the 1980's by some thugs at Waihi Beach who robbed his fish and chip shop and almost beat him to death. He never fully recovered from that.
