Alex McCaw, 18yrs, has possibly become the worlds youngest glider pilot to achieve a 1000km task flight.

Flight was planned as: launch Omarama - remote start Glentanner Airfield - Waikaiwa (Southland) - Mt Chudley (Mt Cook NP) - Waikaiwa - finish - Glentanner.

Alex ran out of daylight to return to Omarama, so landed at Pukaki where 3 carloads (and trailer) went to meet him and retrieve the glider.

Awesome effort from the young guy!
