Is anybody coming over or any of the Aussie based members off to the Avalon show in March?
Might be fun to meet up for a few beers.

Dave
I would be keen to come from CHC. Veterans would add to the day. Would be happy to pay a fee. I heard Bryan Cox was NZ bound again, has he made it back yet? Thanks

Yes Bryan is back in Tauranga. Being from Cambridge originally and our guest speaker in 2004, he will naturally be invited to the next do.

I don't think I'd ask Bryan to speak as he spoke at the last reunion. I have a few other guest speakers in mind however.
I am hoping for May 2011, but it depends on the venue if they are booked up that month. and I have had trouble catching them open. It's a club, and I'm not a member so I'm not certain of their hours. i will check with my mate who's the secretary.

OK, regarding the Wings Over New Zealand Veterans DayI have now made a booking and set a date. Details are thus: Date: Saturday 14th of May 2011 Time: 11.00am start, and we'll have the venue till 6.00pm Venue: The Cambridge Club, Dick Street, Cambridge Registration Fee: $15.00 per head, which must be paid beforehand by 1st of April 2011 The costs will cover venue hire, organisational costs and platters of finger food through the day. Food: As mentioned finger food will be provided. You can additionally buy a full meal at the bar if you wish, or if you walk one block you are in the centre of town where there are cafes and takeaway food shops too. Alcohol: If you fancy a beer or whatever, there is a bar where you will be able to buy discounted drinks (so long as you've signed in at the door). Refreshments: I believe cups of tea and coffee will be provided within the ticket price too but I'll check on that and amend here when I find out one way or the other. Signing In: As it is a private club, all visitors must sign in at the door on arrival, which entitles you to cheap drinks. Additionally I hope to have a second visitors book for visitors to sign which I can keep as a memento. Please sign these on arrival. The Venue: The club is an excellent venue. It has a bar and comfortable seating. We have access to a data projector, DVD player and screen there so can play some films if we need to, though it might be a bit bright being a daytime event. There are two full sized snooker tables and a dart board if you get bored with aviation talk. There is a deck for the smokers to sit on out the front and look at the park. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is that of an old gentleman's club - which is exactly what it used to be since it was established over a century ago. It's perfect for a veterans' event. It is very central to town and easily found; it looks out onto the town square and is just across the square from the Cenotaph. The Cenotaph: So long as the weather is fine we'd like to work a visit to the Cambridge Cenotaph into the day, plus the Air Force Memorial Plaque which was laid at our first reunion in 2004 and other memorials in the Jubilee Gardens there. Venue Capacity: Regulations allow room for 100 people maximum so if we get 100 registered then registrations will be closed. Please get your registrations into me now Car Pooling With Veterans: Let me know if you can bring a/some WWII veterans along or other forum members. Also let me know if you are flying into Hamilton airport and need a lift from and to the airport. Programme: It is early days yet but throughout the day we hope to be able to provide: - At least three WWII Veteran guest speakers - Perhaps an aviation personality guest speaker - Perhaps some rare aviation film footage (if anyone has suggestions please email me) - A raffle (donation of prizes welcome, and suggestions for the beneficiary would be welcome too - last time we did this we donated proceeds to Dakota ZK-DAK 'Betsy' and also to the Ashbuton Aviation Museum's new hangar project. As Betsy is needing money now maybe this would be another good cause?) I would also welcome anyone who wishes to bring along displays such as models, photos, aviation artwork, etc We would also welcome any authors who wish to sell their aviation related book and do a signing to come along too. And if you have a boot full of old model kitsets you want to offer for sale that would be fine too (I'm thinking you kb). Maybe the whole carpark will turn into an aviation boot sale. Send in other ideas, suggestions and whatever now, and mark your calendars. Well behaved, interested children are most welcome. If they lose interest we can put them in the park across the road till the Dad/Mum is ready to go home. ;D And to get in and don't miss out on your tickets, which are limited, please send your registration fee of $15.00 per person to me now. If you are coming as a group please pay as a group and provide full details of each person and indicate if any are WWII veterans. Tickets as such won't be dispatched but you'll be placed onto the registration list. My address is for sending through cash or cheques, payable to David Homewood, is: 13 Froude Street, Leamington, Cambridge 3432 If you want to make a bank deposit of use PayPal instead, email me and I'll send details. dave_daasnz@hotmail.comNB: If you pay and then do not show up, there will not be refunds given as the money is needed to pay for the event

NEW FORUM MEET
A Visit To The Subritzky Collection Well known aircraft collector and forum member Don Subritzky has extended an invitation to the forum members to have a meet up at his place at Dairy Flat, north of Auckland, and take the opportunity see the amazing collection of aeroplanes he and his family have there. We will have the opportunity to see the progress in the restorations on the Oxford, the Vincent, and the Hinds, and see the many other airframes and relics in store there.
How does Sunday the 27th of March suit everyone? And who is keen apart from me, Don and Shamus?

Omaka would be great. Some from Nelson would only be there for one day though, so if you're staying in Blenheim the whole weekend then maybe you could span it over the three days. This particular airshow could be the greatest! Also, for those who haven't been before, I highly recommend the Aviation Heritage Museum. It has an excellent collection of WW1 planes and beautiful displays.

Hi Jasper, at Omaka we usually all meet up at the Marlborough Aero Club's Clubrooms straight after flying finishes each day Friday-Sunday. They usually have a bbq there and for those of us who're a few years older than you, the beer is mighty good too after a long day in the sun and dust. Mind you, for those of us who know each other already we often keep bumping into each other through the day too, and there seems to be a forum enclave who occupy the back row of the Gold Pass stand too.
