At the Waitangi Weekend SAA Great Plains Fly-in at Ashburton I snapped this shot of 6 of 8 NZ registered Corby Starlets. No less than 75% even! In order of appearance: TOY, TNT, SJM, EEZ, JAM, MGM (MIA: DEO, ONE)

I must admit I have been a bit slack in posting my pics of Ashburton. I flew down in an Air NZ passenger tube when the guy who I was goingto fly down with came down with the flu. As it turns out, the only North Islanders to make it were those who came down earlier in the week, as low cloud almost completely covered the bottom half of the north Island. I wont post my pics as the are pretty similar to what is already shown, but I may post photos of the Mesopotamia Station Fly away later on. Despite the reduced numbers it was a great weekend with much aeroplane spoken and good food consumed! The Mesopotamia trip was a highlight, as I was offered a ride in Barry Divehall's Jodel. Good nav practice too!. I also had a chance to prop swing the Spartan 3 Seater for Bob McGarry, and help fold it up to stow it in its hangar - Its a very rare bird - amost as rare as my Adventurer! I also a a good chat with John Corby, the designer of all those Starlets. It was the first time he had seen one of the metal CM2 "Kestrel"s flying (ZK-SJM) as the Aussie "prototype" isn't finished yet! I stayed in Christchurch Friday and Saturday Nights with fellow SAA Committee member John Byers, who has a BA Swallow Prewar light aircraft under rebuild in his garage! Far too hot though - glad the Icecream man was on the airfield!

First of all what's the thing with the gull wings and German markings and what sort of counter shaft/gearbox did the toyota V8 have?

What is the pink Miss Piggy machine?
And also what is that yellow and red one marked as VPI. It does not look capable of flight to me. Was it a pedal car or something?

Sorry Bruce, didn't want to steal your thunder, KCD got airborne just as I arrived, that would have been you guys heading to Mesopotamia. Any photos are good so if you have any others please post them especially the micro mustangs. Yes it was hot, on sunday at Christchurch the car temp gauge was on 42 deg driving along.

Love all the photos. That silver Auster (can't quite make out the rego) looks like a wartime MK5 but with a modern Lycoming installed. I recall my old Auster AUH exRAF TW502 wore those silver RAF markings postwar. Love the Klemm and the "Mustang" lineup!

The silver Auster is ZK-ARR, belonging to Richard Royds. It is a genuine ex Military AOP5 which was built with the Lycoming engine. I flew in it with Richard on my first trip to Mesopotamia 4 years ago. Nice aircraft. Noooby, yes my ride was in KCD with Barry Divehall. A great flight as Barry is an extremely "professional" pilot and the aeroplane is immaculate. This is the 4th Jodel I have had the privelege to travel in (Ive been in D11's DBY and KSD and D18 JAC as well) and their comfort and manouverability are outstanding.

Yeah there was a bit of a head wind - we thought we might get hammered heading in to the Rakaia, but it was surprisingly smooth in the end (Possibly the great Jodel wing effect). I must have missed the proof reading though - this is Lake Heron!

Bruce, Next time you see Barry ask him about the time he had to land at Waiouru and stay the night there on a trip from foxpine back to TGA I think both our foo foo valves were puckering a bit in the weather that day! There used to be a photo of KCD on the strip at Waiouru in the Borman hangar. Cheers Graham
