We run one of the few "advanced microlight" training school in Auckland and our biggest problem is the public perception of what a microlight is. I try very hard to always call them Light Sport Aircraft or Sport Aircraft or LSAs. And I refer to the license to fly them (more correctly a permit) as a "Sport License" with the rational that ours are issued by SAC - Sport Aviation Corp.
Geoff's aircraft was at the top end of what fits this category. Actually all the figures reported for the aircraft were quite restrained. the endurance they quote is based on the fuel that he actually had onboard. The aircraft had 220L capacity at <20L/hr burn in a 135kts cruise.
The nature of the crash leads me to believe he suffered some medical problem, otherwise I cannot rationalise what has happened. The final flight path looks very much like an autopilot path to me.
He and his vast mental library of stories and knowledge will be sorely missed around here.

I hear people say 'hang glider with an engine' all the time. Hang glider with an engine? I thought powered bed sheets was a better description. Just kidding Darren Oi, you leave my powered bedsheet alone!!!
