I really like to play games on XBox occassionally where the scenario is you're a soldier in WWII, such as Brothers in Arms, the Medal of Honor series, Call of Duty, etc. Some of these are so realistic and great games where the user also learns some history along the way.
I was wondering if there are any games like this which are dedicated Air Force games?
I'd love to see a game where you go through the levels like this:
- EFTS -
Flying a Tiger Moth, you first have to learn the rudiments of flying, and then have to pass tests with your instructor breathing down your neck like aerobatics, blind flying, navigation, etc.
-SFTS-
Flying a Harvard - tests such as nav exercises, formation flying, aerobatics, gunnery, low flying.
-OTU-
Learning to handle a Spitfire or Hurricane, gunnery, strafing, bombing practice, etc.
-Squadron- 1942
From here on in you get assigned different duties such as:
- defending the aerodrome
- fighter interception
- bomber escort
- shipping escort
- sweeps over France including air combat
- strafing barges and boats in the English Channel
- on your last mission with the Spitfire squadron you are shot down and become an:
-Evader-
You have to now
- make contact with the resistance or life line
- make your way across France and back to England with lots of scary scrapes in between, maybe even helping the resistance on missions
- Returned to UK - reassigned to bombers
- Train on a Wellington bomber at an OTU and meet your crew
- Get assigned to a Lancaster squadron as a second pilot
- Fly missions into France, Belgium, Holand and eventually Germany, over the Ruhr
- As second pilot on missions you get to take over other positions like rear gunner, mid-upper, wireless, nav, bomb aimer, etc as and when needed
- Eventuallu get command of your own Lancaster and fly your own missions through flak, night fighters, etc.
There's scope here to do other work such as flying a Lysander into enemy territory, or a Coastal Command Mosquito firing rockets at shis, etc.
So, is there anything out there like this? Not just the standard flight sim but a full game with storyline, characters, realism, etc?
I want to play this game!
