Was anyone from this forum snapping pics of a Corrections flight in Wellington yesterday? I saw a figure over the fence snapping away.

You're a tease!!! Where's the next photo??? That was going to be the "interesting" one!!! Smoke, swerve for the centreline, etc.
I've never flown a Metro (or any sort of twin for that matter) but it doesn't look like the standard crosswind technique was utilised in this instance... maybe a limitation of control effectiveness in the bionic pencil??? Maybe Joe can comment?

Looking at the angle of the dangle, mayby 15-20kts from the left? I reckon it looks like a normal crab..flare..decrab....but the proof is in the last piccy, where is it :-)

;D Slackie! Nothing to see here, move along. Crosswind technique is standard crab, wing down, straight with rudder. If you get slow the ailerons are rubbish. Swearingen extended the wing span of the Merlin when they stretched the tube to create the Metroliner. Unfortunately they thought it a good idea to leave the ailerons where they were and put an extension cap on instead. So inboard ailerons means less effectiveness, particularly at lower speeds. The Metro handles like rubbish to the low time Metro pilot, but once you get a bit of time on it, it's a pleasure to fly (but keeps you very honest!). Ykato, they are fantastic shots, thanks.

Metro is great fun! I found that on a really windy day (like Wellington) it was bloody hard work to taxi!
Takes at least 500 hours to know what you are doing in it (with no previous experience in a similar sized/performance airplane)

The Lifeflight Wellington contract is now operated by Vincent in their Jetstream. Regarding the question over what happens to LFT, well I guess we shall all have to wait and see.
