Thanks Errol. That last sentence is what i am referring to with Wireless Op-Air Gunner trainees getting all the way to Canada and then dropping out due to inability to fly because of air sickness or middle-ear issues. It's a long way to go just to come home again. A couple of different guys have mentioned to me of people dropping out of the course in Canada on their first flight due to medical reasons. Dave, I imagine that the number of those affected by middle-ear issues was very small indeed, and air-sickness was often overcome by those still determined to make it as aircrew. The cost in manpower, etc, of giving air experience to about 5000 non-pilot types probably outweighed that of sending those to (and returning them from) Canada? Errol

Interesting thread that! Will have to talk to Harry Irons and find out what they did with him. Mind you am waiting for another book about a Hally Air Gunner so that might say....
