Interesting how the harrier back seater is well and truely above the front seater and has what looks like an unrestricted view forward..... but the Typhoon back seater sits level with the front seater and his HUD looks like it projects onto the back of the front bang seat.....
machpants or any other suitably FJ knowledgable forumite know why that might be in the Typhoon?
Also, very minimalistic livery for the Herc.
Fantastic shot's by the way....
Cheers

Generally speaking training aircraft have an instructor in the back seat, hence the need for them to be higher up for forward visibility reasons. In combat aircraft the guy-in-back is operating avionics and weapon systems, not flying, so can be seated at lower level for minimal drag etc... Harrier is normally operated by a single pilot in combat, the one in the photo is a dedicated trainer variant with the higher up rear cockpit added on.
The HUD is actually projected on the glass screen, it only appears to be floating in the space ahead near the front bang seat.
P.S. They are all fantastic images!

HY,
Yep, got the concept. But the Typhoon is designed as a single seat fighter and therefore the 2 seat version is also a designated trainer version. Why is the instructor not even slightly elevated?
And my comment about the HUD was that all the backseater appears to see is the HUD info with the ejection seat as a background, not the normal forward horizon which is the purpose of the HUD, to keep your head (& eyes) UP looking out the aircraft, not at a black armoured plate of an ejection seat.
