Some of you may have senn this elsewhere but I may as well post it here as well Not the best kit I've built but it'll do. I just couldn't get he chrome like finish on the nose ring I wanted and after a couple of weeks of trying, sad to say I gave up. Plus I put one set of the large numbers on the underside of the wing around the wrong way. I guess I could remove it and use some generic markings to correct this but I can't be arsed to be honest Some details Kit: 1/48 Airfix F2A/F-6 Lightning Decals: Model Alliance ML48170 BAC/EE Lightning Pt 2 (all markings except chequerboards on the Nose). Decals:Cutting edge Lightning Part 1 (chequerboards on the Nose). Decals:Barradecals Lightning Stencil sheet (where I could) and Kit decals where I had to. Landing Gear: Scale Aircraft metal gear PE: A few bits from the Eduard F1/F3 Set (landing gear bays and canopy mainly) Pitot Probe: Hobby decal Exhausts: Aires Paints - Upper: Gunze Aqueous, and various other greens to break up the colour a bit Paints - Lower: Tamiya AS12 (decanted and spray through the airbrush), Alclad Dark Aluminium and Duraliminium, Jet Exhaust (used on the exhaust and for tinting the AS12) Exhaust manifold (gun panels) l Gloss: Tamiya X22 thinned with Mr Color Thinners Flat Coat: Testors Dullcoate Weathering: Pastel chalks If you're still interested the build thread is HereNow some pictures If you want more photos then go Here

Nothing wrong with that model Calum. I particularly like the undercarriage detail. Very real looking. I didn't realise they were that colour in service.

That is really excellent. I like the markings and the finish you have achieved.
The pennant is interesting withe the little red jets around it. What was the significance of those red planes?

Awesome Lightning, the green is a nice change from the usual silver finish.

Thanks Gents
To answer the questions
Don - the 2 RAF Germany Sqn’s (19 and 92) camouflaged their aircraft first as their role was low level interception of WARPAC aircraft in the event of the cold war going hot. I guess they thought that Silver aircraft at low level were a bit conspicuous.
Dave – The 5 aircraft are "kills" achieved by the Ed Durham in a recent exercise.

I never knew pilots counted and chalked up exercise kills. ;D
