Prepsol (wax and grease remover) is pretty good for taking old sealant off. Its safe for acrylic. Clean it with Meguiars Perspex cleaner (available at Super Cheap auto). Most glass cleaners are also OK, so long as they don't contain any ammonia. Cool thanks for that Bruce. Does it soften it as this sealant is reasonably hard.

It does soften it, but it takes a bit of elbow grease still. If theres quite a bit of sealant on it, you can carefully scrape it off with a wooden wedge (which wont scratch) then finish off with a rag soaked a decent amount of prepsol. once the sealer is off clean it up with the perspex cleaner.

Brasso is also good for cleaning perspex, we used to use it extensively on 748 windows. It's a very fine abrasive so will rmove scuff marks, fine scratches and light crazing. If you want some thing that smells better try toothpaste (paste, not gel)

Hey Great to see it arrived in one piece, as you know it was indeed a mission to get it down here for you.
I use a product called PlastiX by Meguires. It is amazing at taking light marks and scratches out of perspex. I was recommended it by a guy who used to manage a plastics company that made canopies and panels. I tried it on my Mossie hatch and it came up like new.
Baz, Belynda is not sure which weekend will suit yet as she is planning a family holiday before I start my new job. She is chatting to everyone (In laws etc...) at the moment, will let you know asap.
Cheers Anthony

I took a punt and booked the 27th and 28th off but no problem if it doesn't suit as i can always book more! ;D Bruce is down here then as well so if you aren't around i can show him a real Auster (oooooooooooooooo bet i hear about that!) ;D Thanks for that Shorty, its in pretty good nick but there is some minor scratches here and there I might try it out on.

Just a word of warning Baz, dont do just the small spot where the scratch is, polish a wider area or else you will get distortion where you have polished just the scratch. Spread the area wider and the distortion is not noticeable.

Small update; Yesterday was supposed to be the triumphant arrival of the Auster into the hangar. But the best plans etc etc. Anthony was sick (they don't make Auster owners like they used to ha ha)so couldn't make it. That was ok i still had enough bodies to lift the fuselage up onto the trailer. Ring ring went my cellphone. It was Shane Glassey telling me he couldn't make it either. Now i didn't have enough bodies! But a quick re-think and i decided to move the fuselage next Saturday but we would move the wings while we had the trailer. So a wing "sandwich" was made using the trailer, then one wing, then a whole lot of padding then another wing all stropped down to within an inch of its life! I never realised how bumpy the roads are on the way out to Rangiora but all arrived safe and sound. Obiwan27 has a couple of shots of the rapidly filling hangar!

I reckon there's enough room in that hangar for your B25 Mitchell project Mr Baz.

I am most jealous - a nice shiny hangar full of dusty, corroded and rusty aircraft parts, heaven!
