For those going "huh?" Manchester street in Christchurch was the favourite haunt of "ladies of the night". ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

Hello there. New member so excuse the inevitable mistakes ?? The DC 3 prop is of interest to me, as I've just finished the restoration to ground running of an Allison V1710 and am searching for a non-airworthy prop that I could adapt to load the motor. So question is, Is the prop for available or for sale ? Will post pics of the motor to show what we are doing.

I'm not sure if he still has it as I think it's going on the Allison in Tauranga's P40 "kitset". Just in case he doesn't see this post I'll flick him an email for you.

Really appreciate the help baz62 ! Hope something positive turns up. Cheers No problem and we will all be interested in your Allison project! Have you seen Al Marshall's Bristol Hercules engine project? Its in the Bristol freighter thread he started about bringing the engines in CPT back to life. Also I was lucky enough to run Laurie Gudsell's Allison at Classic Fighters in 2011, what a rush!

Must look up the Bristol Freighter thread, and yes I know Laurie Gudsell well. He's been a huge and generous help in getting my one up to run. Especially with original engine mounting frame parts that I was able to copy. Did you see the detail pictures of what he started with? The engine was very rough when he got it, and took years to even get apart. Great effort to get it running. Beautiful example of Kiwi skills.

Gisborne. My motor was a spare and still on its shipping frame when I bought it 31 years ago. Was partly modified for fitting to a speed boat but thankfully the project was never finished and as far as I can tell saw no use in anger, that is, no wear whatsoever anywhere. Have completely stripped and rebuilt it. And its been an absolute pleasure and a tribute the the designers all those years ago with slide rules and drawing boards. We think we are clever these days with all the CAD programs and fancy computers but those guys were really smart !! Trailer is my design and build and frankly was as difficult as the engine itself. Am still trying to get some pics for you.

However there was some kind of corrosion on the main crankshaft bearings, some kind of coating that had broken down over time.

Man you would really have to love an Airedale. Putting a nose wheel on an Auster really made it quite hideous! (Braces for smartarse comments about a short trip, etc etc) Anthony mentioned that someone bid and won it for 500 pounds.........and then didn't pick it up! Still its a shame to see an aircraft fall into such a state and obliviously left to the elements will only get worse. On a brighter note, Graham Orphan, who is a fan of Austers and is a great source of encouragement has found a nice stash of NOS(New Old Stock) military Auster parts in the UK (I think) and has kindly laid the groundwork for contact. My side project to gather the necessary engine parts to convert my engine to a 145hp 1C is nearly complete. I only need one more Alloy cylinder head and I'm done. Keeps your eyes peeled forumites!

Yes, mine were the same by what you describe. A sort of "fish-scaling" in appearance. I sent my bearings back to the USA and had them re-coated by the guys at Ski-Power. Did the recommended plastigage check and they were spot on which reinforces why one should choose the right people to do the job. Allison bearings are a specialists job.

Great stuff Baz.
You mean to say it isn't anymore?! There used to be an old white house on the corner of Manchester and Peterborough that was a brothel, or so a friendly cabbie informed me once. I wonder if it survived the quakes?
