That would make a very interesting model subject.

I wonder what makes him think it's RNZAF? I'd want a bit more proof.

Going by the fin stripes, I'd say that it wasnt RNZAF. Perhaps the seller got confused with the RNZAF ASR Hudsons? It looks like a C60 or super Electra rather than a Hudson as the fuselage looks longer - the tailplane is also stepped up a bit (If you continue the line of the fuselage top it doesnt match up with the tailplane)
I'd say its more likely to be French - note the roundel tones.

The colour tones could possibly be decieved by the processing type, which sometimes back then made one shade look like another. But I agree I doubt it is RNZAF at all. As far as I know the only dedicated nces we had were the No. 42 Squadron DH89's, and Hudsons certainly never carried that scheme as far as I'm aware. If it is an RNZAF Hudson, it's a post-1944 C-63 conversion, which served on No's 40 and 41 Squadrons. I believe all they carried were troops, mail and spare parts, etc, and were not specifically dedicated as ambulance aircraft.
It would be nice to hear where the seller got their info though, who knows, it may be right. I have sent the seller a question to see what they say.

Here is the reply I got from the seller today:
"Dear Dave, from the cockpit and nose I can observe,I believe the aircraft is a Lockheed Lodestar not a Hudson. With regard to the roundels, there are so many variants from numerous Air Forces which used this type of insignia in WW2,and without the benefit of colour photograhy it is often impossible to make a 100% identification. As I am sure you will understand there is a limit to how much time one can spend researching a £2 photo. This image is part of a collection of photographs taken by a New Zealand nurse, there are a number of Air Force officers in these photos, they all have RNZAF insignia on their uniforms-it is not unreasonable to attribute the Air ambulance to RNZAF in view of the obvious close relationship between the nurses, their field hospital and the RNZAF. Best regards Lynda."

Caveat emptor (for those with no classical education, buyer beware!).
