Weather permitting, Sean Perrett will be coming down for the book launch on Wednesday night. He will give a brief talk about what it is like to fly a Spitfire and also talk about the Air 2 Air flights we have conducted. Sould be interesting, Brendon Deere is coming along as well so great to have two key people involved with the book coming along.

Thanks Dave, is only a small affair really, the local Warbirds people etc. That is enough for me and good to have some of the camera ship pilots etc there as I owe them so many rounds that I have given up counting

I wandered into Headley's Bookshop in Masterton this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to see a display of Gavin's book. I hadn't known it even existed so it really was a surprise. Needless to say, after an on-the-spot impulse purchase, I am now the owner of a copy. I've only had a cursory glance through it, but I'll take a real good look over the next couple of weeks. From what I've seen it looks really great. Now....(perhaps a bit of wishful thinking) when is volume two featuring aeroplanes of the Great War coming out?

I was up at Kerikeri this weekend and had a look in PaperPlus whilst my wife was walking the half marathon and spied a copy of Gavin's book. After a quick flick through I purchase it a then told my wife, once she finished the walk, that I had got her Xmas present for me It was even better as Paper plus had a sale on with 25% off ;D I have only had a quick flick through but I recommend everyone to get it a copy. Now all I need to buy is the calender. Well done Gavin. I particularly like the Corsair.

Picked up my copy from the local Whitcoulls, read all the pilot reports and found some GORGEOUS photos. Well done Gavin!
Also, I did enjoy Keith Skilling's foreword. I love hearing from the pilots about their first flights in various machines.

Thanks for the feedback, the sales have exceeded the publishers expectations by quite bit so that is pleasing. Sent 30 copies out to the pilots and owners and they are very happy. The launch went well, was great to have some of the key people there, and Bill Reid came over from Nelson for a look as well. The journalists really enjoyed thier flights, one of my relatives won the Nanchang ride, Dan Frew picked the winning ticket so no set up Will post a few photos soon. Cheers Gavin

Leafed through a copy at Paper Tree at Tower Junction last night. (Dont worry, I'll be buying a couple of copies!!). Was thinking as I held it and looked at page after page of glorious pictures, . . this is more like an $80 book.
But for heavens sake, nobody tell Gavin that !!!!!

Thanks for that, we were pleased to keep it down to $60 Charlie Beetham gets his copy. Katherine from the Marlborough Express goes for a flight. Celeste goes for a flight as well and takes this photo from the Nanchang. And one looking back. And the prize winner grinning from ear to ear. Special thanks to Jay and Mark for flying the aeroplanes.

My review for those not on Facebook.
Well just finished my first read of the book and as expected all I can say is awesome! For the enthusiast of any age a must read and inspiring to the younger generations to go to an air show or local field and check out the warbirds in NZ first hand you won't be disappointed. The accompanying text to each section relates the enthusiasm of all those involved in warbirds restoration and operation in this country and beyond. At last we have a book showing the warbirds status here and some that we share before they are shipped to owners overseas. Gavin's air to air pics always superb and to see aircraft as they should be in flight doing what they were meant for rather than static in a museum. To all those that have contributed to this book in whatever way my sincere congratulations you have a real winner.
Cheers, Colin

Here is a pic from Warren Denholm showing some of the Avspecs guys with the book that Warren has given them all for Christmas. 20 copies headed their way last month and the boys are chuffed as they have or still do work on some of the fighters in the book. By the way the boys have had a sort out in the hangar and the Mossie will be back inside by now to continue with this huge restoration job.

I got a copy of your wonderful book for Christmas Gavin and everyone who saw it said what a beautiful book. The photos in such a large format are just stunning. I just love all the cockpit shots.
It also goes nicely with your calendar someone else coincidentally gave me for Christmas! Again the photos in there are stunning!
Bring on "Precious Wood"!
