Three navy ships to attend Waitangi commemorations12:43 PM Friday Jan 28, 2011 Expand HMNZS Otago. File photo / Greg BowkerThe Navy is heading back to Waitangi in force for next month's 171th commemorations of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi with three ships and a 100-strong honour guard - the biggest presence for many years. The Anzac frigate, HMNZS Te Kaha, the offshore patrol vessel, HMNZS Otago and the inshore patrol vessel, HMNZS Hawea, the 100-strong honour guard and the navy band are due in Waitangi next week to take part in the commemorations to celebrate the signing of the treaty in 1840. The last time the navy had such a big presence was in 1994 when Prince Charles visited Waitangi. The Navy first paraded at Waitangi in 1947. A naval spokeswoman said that this year the navy planned two ceremonial beat retreat ceremonies, one on Saturday and one on Sunday - Waitangi Day. - NZPA www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10702650

Jeez, isn't that half the RNZN's fleet going along? Sounds like the Government is expecting the natives to get restless!

A shotgun and a bare bottom is no match for a 25mm cannon. ;D
