Historical place marked on Mt Taranaki 5:00AM Sunday February 17, 2008
The site of a World War II air crash on Mt Taranaki has been marked as an historical place by the Department of Conservation. An RNZAF training aircraft crashed on the southern side of the mountain on September 4, 1944.
Two airmen died, but badly injured Alexander Petersen walked out of the bush to get help for his companion Bruce Rough. www.nzherald.co.nz/topic/story.cfm?c_id=262&objectid=10492900
