May be of interest to some; I recently discovered that Captain Alfred Shout VC, 1st Battalion AIF and one of the original Anzacs, was in fact a New Zealander. He was born in Wellington and served with the New Zealand Border Horse in South Africa prior to emigrating to Australia in 1907.
