The New Zealand Defence Force has gone to tender for a satellite communications system, citing limitations and degradation of the current Royal New Zealand Navy system, rapid demand for near real-time applications using more bandwidth, and the evolution of technology. “The increased security awareness and demands currently being experienced around the globe have meant that the ability to share digital information in the form of photographs and video footage in near real-time with multiple agencies working together has taken on a new importance,†the statement of requirement says. The objectives of the project include providing satellite communications to ships, increasing their situational awareness, and providing voice and data communications between ships and the Defence Information Environment. computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/news/defence-force-invites-tenders-for-satellite-comms
