Today in History 25 September 1918 Palestine - the Anzac Mounted Division captures the town of Amman from Ottoman forces. This is one of the final acts in the Battle of Megiddo, which ends the same day with Ottoman forces retreating north, and eventually surrendering to the Anzac Mounted Division on 28 September.

My grandmothers brother is buried over there - but in Gaza cemetery. Wonder if it's still there, or has become a casualty a second time!

Hi,
Looking for the grave of Trooper Leonard Laird,13340 WMR Died the same day as the above Twomey,5th Nov 1917 at Beersheba. Not sure if he is there or not as the records list him as buried on a hill, however he may have been moved later.
Many thanks,
Greg.

I note that he is recorded on the Jerusalem Memorial at that same cemetery. As a Commonwealth War Graves Commission search does not provide any record, that would seem to indicate that he remains buried in the field.
