Volume 3 is named "pictorial "and I got mine directly from Peter Cooke . Try him petercooke@paradise.net.nz or 04 934 6817. Have a look on goggle earth as the battery layout is easy to spot and covers a large area.

Thanks guys. The mystery is solved - the third volume (from what I've gathered off the net) is not actually called Volume 3, but is, as PJW4118 said, subtitled "Pictorial", and includes all the photos from Volumes I and 2 (the original 2 volumes include all the photos plus text, and the "Pictorial" volume was published about a year later with all the photos only). The Auckland library system does have this book, and I've also ordered it.
As a follow-on from my comments on MOTUTAPU, it seems that the underground complex was built after the construction of the main battery (by several years, towards the end of the war). It's purpose was to protect the plotting and gun-laying gear, and what I was told was a small hospital was probably no more than a first-aid room. The underground portion is not very large (Stony Batter is much, much larger), and the two entrances can be seen in Google Earth down the hill from the original concrete buildings in the photo I posted.
