Thanks to Marty's photo of the 22 Squadron Corsair showing the Katipo marking, it's solved another mystery over markings on a Corsair for me! ;D I've been trying to figure out just what that logo was, now well and truly resolved. The dog or wolf's head on the cowl is also very interesting. F4U-1 NZ5347. Photo via Air Force Museum of NZ, MMS99048. Great stuff, Pete M.

I just realised that is the same photo that Mike posted on the other thread. I couldn't make out what was oin the cowl before, now we have two angles. Great!

There seems to be two variations of the Katipo logo, white background as seen in Marty and Pete's shots, but Mike's shot seems to have maybe blue or grey background with a white outer rim?
