The one in Wigram Museum was a gift from the US, 'retired' it had less hours on it than ours.
It was painted as the end of course project by 94-1 Aircraft Finishers course, it would have been around early Feb '95. I still remember waiting to cross the road from the paintshop with a load of gear in my arms when the AOC's car complete with flags and star plates came toward me, I braced up as best as I could while carrying the stuff, blow me if he didnt stop and come in for a look.
I just checked my old albums, looks like I only took a photo after it was painted but not before so can't help with a s/n for it.

I heard a story (not sure if its true of course) that at one point they considered this aircraft in good enough condition to actually fly it and ground another one from the fleet and send it to Wigram I heard that idea died when they discovered they didn't have the logbooks for the engine and airframe?

I also heard it was a gift, conditional on never being flown again.

the musuem's iroquois was a fully refurbished UH-1H that we picked up with a C130 during a visit to the UK for the RIAT 1994 show. Came from Mannheim from the storage area of many hueys that were being returned to the states. Yes it was true that the overall condition of the aircraft and low airframe hours made a tempting "swap" situation for one of our older aricraft

The data plate had also been removed from the airframe.
